The stock headers are 1 3/4". You'll need clamps that can fit over the slip ons that fit over 1 3/4". The clamps would need to expand to about 1 7/8" to 2" give or take.
Just went through a pain in the *** experience. If you have double walled slip ons the stock clamps will NOT work. You will need 2" clamps. Measure before you buy the clamps. I have two stock clamps collecting dust because they would not fit. Needed to find special 2" clamps which are hard to find locally.
I would not use a automotive clamp, I think when you tighten it down the clamp would make a depression in the muffler making it very hard to remove the next time you need to remove. Just bite the bullet and use a OEM clamp.
Thanks for the info. The clamps I have must expand when they get hot cause after a ride after the pipes cool down the right rear slip on is real loose. I tighten it back down and it's snug. Think new clamps will fix this? I have Samson Rolling Thunder Ovals. I'm not sure if they are double walled.
Does anyone know the part number for the rear hanger clamp and rubber mounts?
Harley muffler clamps are notorious for stretching out after being installed several times, especialy if they were over tightened without using a torque wrench.
I've had this happen and corrected it by installing NEW CLAMPS and torquing to proper specs. Actually you should never re-use an old clamp ... and the advice to NOT USE an automotive clamp is right on!
