Default Carb help...

I just had Andrews TW26a cams installed in my 2001 FLHTC with S&S adjustable push rods. The bike runs fine, at least that's what I was told because I broke my damn foot a day before I got the bike back from the shop. Anyway, I'm thinking about replacing the stock HD carb with either an Mikuni HSR42 Flatside (which I have experience with or the S&S carb kit. Does anyone have any experience with the S&S carb?

Any advise would be welcomed.

Thanks

I put the Andrews 21 cams in with my 88" and my CV carb works great. Why the need to change?

No real need...just improving performance. By installing a performance carb and upgrading ignition with system with SE or Crane coils, wires, etc., you can expect more HP and even better fuel mileage.

A mik will give a little more throttle response and a little less mpg, even with the leanest accel. pump nozzle.

Maybe a mikuni would be a good choice for Florida where the highest "hill" is 32 feet.

The huge advantage of the CV carb is that it is self adjusting for changes in air density ( altitude or temperature) where most other ( S&S, Mikuni, Qwiksilver/Edelbrock, Keihin Butterfly, Tillotson, Bendix, Linkert) carbs are not and need jetting swap if you go high.

The mikuni can have quicker response to the throttle - depending on the quality of the tuning adjustments.

for my money and riding style the CV is far superior.

AZ sees riding from 150' to over 7000' ( Yuma to Flagstaff).

My Pal with the 100/100 roadking with the Mikuni couldn't stay even close to me if we were over 5000' ( quite common here) ...I'm on my evo bagger with all of 65 HP

Mike
