Default 88 - 96 ci ?

just wondering if to go from the 88 - 96ci and whats involved ?

ive got a 2006 RKC and want some more top end cruising speed, was also wondering if to keep the 88 and go for a 6 speed box instead ?

any thoughts on what you think would be best or have you done this yourself ?

thanks in advance
Matt

the bored 88 is a 95"

the 96" is stroker, bored 96 is a 103

boring is easy and cheap(er) than trying to stroke a 88- It really only requires pulling the heads and swapping on larger diameter pistons and cylinders...while at it, this is a good time to think about performance cams as the labour costs will be minimal to add them since the other work is in progress

tranny:

the 6 speed can be a "close ratio" where the 6th is a 1:1 just like the stock 5th gear--- just more intermediate gears which can be fun for keeping the motor at peak power range while jamming through traffic or twisties

or an overdrive where 5th is 1:1 and 6th is .86- rendering a 15% ( ish) overdrive.

to really use an overdrive you would want to tune for torque.

more gears does not mean faster just as on your push bike, if you are winded in 9th gear, switching up to 10th isn't going to make you go any faster any easier.

what is the current state of your bike ?

if completely stock- your 88 is running about 55 horsepower, just a stage 1 can get an additional 7 to 10 HP at minimal cost.

If you want to go to 96 you have to put a longer stroke crank in it. If you want to go 95 you can get new pistons and bore the cylinders out or by cylinders all ready bored. If you want 103 do both. You will have to remap the ICM all so called a ICU.

Be prepared for the heat that it puts out. Bought a glide with a 103 and the heat is unreal.

Default 88 to 86

If you want to punch your motor out, you can go to 95CI. Depending on your tune, you could get a significant bump in power

I would not go with a six speed/88cu. In my opionion you would be under powered in six gear.

Had a '01 EGC and went to the 96ci, dealer installed, with VH mufflers and SE air cleaner. Ran it with stock 5 speed tranny. Bike ran great, had good torque, even with the wife on it, and neither of us are light weights.

I have done the following to my 2004 RK:
95" Big bore kit
Some port/polish/mill work on the stock heads
Andrews TW26 cams
K&N air filter
Some self modified swap meet Super Trapp slip ons
Dyno= 80.38 HP steady increase through RPM's
86.99 Torque peak @ 2700 and doesn't fall until 4700

I have a 2000 Ultra T/C 88, (with a 5spd) and at first I only had the Stage I Kit (a/c and V&H slip-on mufflers).
My bike (stock) would turn 3500 RPM's at 80MPH in 5th gear.

I wanted lower RPM's at cruising speeds so I had a Baker 6sdp trans installed and it then turned about 3050 RPM's at 80 MPH but the engine just didn't have any pick up until it got above 3500 RPM's.

SHortly after the installation of the 6 spd tranny, I had the 1550 kit installed and that made a world of difference!
I rarely go over 80-85 MPH but the low to mid-range torque really pulls the bike around very well and is well worth the cost of the upgrade.

I now have 79,000 miles on the bike (about 39,000 on the 1550 kit) and she's still running great and I'd recommend the 1550 to those who are looking for a little more pep in their T/C 88.

Call Scott at Hillside (sponsor) or Jamie at FuelMoto (sponsor). I have talked to both. They can fix you right up. Both offer 97" big bore kits, tuners, and head work to suit your needs. With their help you can easily see 100HP & TQ. bolt-in kits. Do not need to stroke it to get 97".

I bought a new '03 Heritage with an 88ci motor and 5 speed.

I kept it that way for about 6 months and then went with the HD "Big Bore Kit" #29775-02A. It was an excellent upgrade with very obvious improvement in performance. It came with jugs, pistons, cams, clutch spring, and Harley stageII download. I also added a V&H big shot exhaust. It ran great and I love it. The only issue was some popping on deceleration.

Just this last month, I got a PowerVision from Fuelmoto for my Limited and added a license for my Heritage. While Jaime @ Fuelmoto didn't have a map for my set-up, I sent a copy of the HD download tune to Dynojet. They reworked it and sent me a new tune based on the old one. I flashed it and now my Heritage runs even better than before..... and NO popping.

Needless to say I am a big fan of boring an 88 to make a 95....... Go for it!
