Well it's definitely a thicker oil than syn 3.
My tranny red line looks like pep to bismol on steroids.
Feels good. I'd assume it protects better.
When it's reall hot out and I'm running hard you can smell the red lines nasty smell radiating up via the trans vent tube. Right up to the rider. Smells like crap.
I used it in a 2000 Electraglide after some engine work and upgrades. I used it so I could tell where any leaks were coming from. I really didn't notice any difference good or bad.
Try a google search on spectro. I was very surprised to see what kind of product they think is premium. It's inconsistent at best and apparently they have had a few bad batches hit the street damaging peoples equipment.
Sorry the smell turns you off however I've never noticed a bad smell and the way my tranny operates with red line in it tells me not to even consider anything else.
Good luck with spectro. They are a conventional basestock and their additive packages are mediocre at best. They are like Lucas, big name with no real stand out products. Average at best. But it's your money. Spend it how you see fit
Baker ships their transmissions out with Spectro 6-Speed fluid in them, that must say something!!! I've been using the stuff for 3 years now and it shifts the same as the Redline stuff that I used previously and the god awful smell is gone....but I just bought a case of Redline 20/60 engine oil for my summer riding....
