Red Line users, do u recommend it?
Someone told me Harley was not doing warranty work on trans with shockproff. Has anyone had any problems with warranty ? What do I have to do to maintain warranty in good standing. I change oil myself and have a indy do some work
As far as red line is concerned their products are above and beyond mobil 1 and Amsoil.
Now I'm not raking anything away from Amsoil however red-line uses real group 5 basestocks in their formulations and if you've ever seen a virgin oil analysis on their products the additive packs are incredibly stout. They are one of the best,if not the best blenders out there but it's gonna cost you.
I use shockproof heavy in my tranny. It eliminated the clunk into first gear and my tranny shifts super smooth.
Their engine oils are second to none in any application as well.
When I got the 106 kit installed the shop changed all my fluids unbeknownst to me and put syn 3 in all 3 holes. As soon as I picked up my bike and rode it I could tell instantly that something was wrong. The tranny was notchy and neutral was impossible to get into. I got home, checked the tranny fluid then immediately rode to the spied shop to pick up a bottle of shockproof.
Once I got that syn 3 garbage out the tranny immediately operated smoothly again.
As far as engine oil goes I've got an enormous stockpile so I don't need to buy any for years to come but once I run out I will be using red lines 20w-50 auto oil for the remainder of my ownership of this bike.
Everything red line puts their name on is top quality, and expect to pay dearly for it however you get what you pay for.
Mobil 1 isn't even in the same league as red-line. There is not a single oil out there that mobil 1 makes available to the public that can compete with red line.
If you are going to spend money on synthetic fluids then get the real deal. Amsoil, royal purple,red-line,motul all qualify as true synthetics which are group 4 and 5 basestocks. Mobil has re-formulated all their oils using what they call visom which is a hydrocracked group 3 conventional basestock which isn't synthetic.
Sorry the smell turns you off however I've never noticed a bad smell and the way my tranny operates with red line in it tells me not to even consider anything else.
Good luck with spectro. They are a conventional basestock and their additive packages are mediocre at best. They are like Lucas, big name with no real stand out products. Average at best. But it's your money. Spend it how you see fit
Why exactly would tranny fluid need to meet a spec associated with gear oil.
Your Indy should spend done time researching and perhaps fact check.
