I just installed the Heritage Style bars and H-D heated grips to my 2012 Road King. Holy cow! It was about 1 million times easier then installing them on my 08 flhtc. I mean school kid easy.
I have a question about the spare and unused orange and white/black wire that is in the headlight bucket. (the orange and white has a RED RUBBER CAP on it) It is was in the fairing on my 08 flht and my 10 flhtcu. Is it ok to use that for the heated grips? it wanted me to splice into the fender light but that's just silly if you already have something to use. Also-is that spare orange/white and black pair go to the accessory switch?
I would think it would be ok but figured I'd ask. I'm just not sure if maybe that spare pair rides a ckt with a fuse that won't work for the heated grips.
It isn't in the wiring diagram that I have. I have an 08 manual and a 09 manual. If by chance you know I'd appreciate it. Every orange/white and black pair all go to the 15amp accessory fuse so I'm assuming this one does as well. I can NOT find that connector in the manual and as a matter of fact, the 09 manual that have has the connectors completely WRONG. I think that I'll be just fine but I'd like some experienced opinions.
the unused, capped connector with the headlight is for the Euro version "city light" or position light- a 5 watt light.
I can't be bothered to trace down wiring diagrams as I do not have your install instructions, but i would suggest that when it come to wiring you follow the directions

I hope it wasn't a bother to share your knowledge. "position light". that's what I was looking for. both the fender light and the "HDI position light" all go to the same fuse anyway. and the directions say cut and splice. That's foolish when there is already wires there and ready to use. And sometimes H-D's instructions are full of zhit.
I hope those HD heated grips work out for you. When I was in the market for some heated grips, I read way too many bad reports of the HD grips failing any where from 2 months to 2 years. When I read up on the Heat Demons, 95% of their reports were good, so I went that route.
