As far as after market parts voiding a warranty. Ask them if they heard of the Magnuson-Moss Act. It stops the dealers from wiggling out of warranty by saying you installed after market performance parts.
over zealous sales hype, bullshit, and down right lying is not exclusive to Harley dealerships....... a fool and his money are easily parted.....or something like that
I went for my state inspection. Dealer passed the inspection on my Sportster, but told me that my front tire has tire rot and that I need a new tire for $300. My bike is two years old with 8800 miles and kept in a temperature controlled garage year round. Plenty of tread on tire, no discoloration. Tire looks brand new to me. He thought he could me a quick $300 off of me.
Complained about ABS being soft and spongeee on a 2011.....was told that was normal....next day the front brake failed....lucky for me it was in there parking lot....Some service writers are just smucks...they don't listen.
Forgot to add....1st trip they wanted me to pay for a brake bleed because I requested it....2nd time they didn't want me to leave the place.
Are you sure they didn't say/mean "change O2 to Nitrogen?" Either way - not really necessary on bike, unless they're changing your tires and add Nitrogen vs. air w/the new skids. I do this on my 4-wheelers because the "annoying" low air indicator(s) keep going off.
I can't relate to what has been said here at all. The dealer services people in my area are helpful and knowledgeable. Too bad there are a few who are not.
Just like any new car/motorcycle dealer, the service advisors are on commission. The more crap they can get you to go for, the fatter their paychecks. If you think HD is bad, you should hear what the advisors at luxury car dealerships get away with.
My wife brought her Lexus into a Lexus store for an oil change. Service criminal told her the brakes were shot and the car was too dangerous to drive. I checked them when she got home....over 50% remaining.
When I called them to complain, the answer was "We consider 50% or less dangerous".
I got screwed over when I brought my 1st Harley in for the 1,000 mile service. Wised up real quick, learned how to do it myself, and not only saved thousands of dollars over the years, but I have the satisfaction in knowing that it was done right.
Service advisors will *** you over whenever they get the chance.
All Harley's sound like that. All Harley's do that. In 15 years I never heard of that problem. If you want a sport bike get a sport bike.
There are good ones and bad ones. Same as anything.
