I would not switch to Nitrogen.
I'm quite happy with the old water that I'm running in my tires now.

If you read real close the 1000 mile is a inspect/maintenance item. You can do maintenance but not the inspect. However if you bought bike new, Harley is required to reinspect it since its a safety issue. However you are going to have to moan a lot to get them to do it free. You got to say correct words and not fall for the OH that's maintenance. Unless they changed it in the manual now. Read what your's says about the 1000 mile and how it's worded.

Call it whatever you want; the dealer will try to nail you for $300 or $400 for the service

Althought it would never be done because it would not be conducive to "good selling" there should be a printed page handed to all Harley purchasers just before they signed on the dotted line. This page would be a list of all the things that the dealership gets complaints on and their response to those complaints.
At the top of the page I would imagine that one of the first complaints dealers get from owner of new bikes is that "Hell, I paid nearly $25,000 for my new Harley and they should have checked it over better before I took delivery".

And in my imagination the dealer'r response would likely be "Hell man, you can't equate the price of anything with what you paid for it. They all do that"!

And again, in my head, the purchaser says "Well, if they all do that why in the hell didn't the salesman tell me that before I bought it"?
OK, too many voices in my head. Time to take meds again.

I'm always fascinated by these stories. Dealers of cars and motorcycles do have a universally bad reputation for this kind of behavior.
I feel fortunate to have purchased my bike from Bergen County HD in New Jersey. They have always seemed to be honest and above board. They honor warrantees whenever it's proper to do so.
Dealer service does cost $$$ but not everybody can be expected to do all of their own service.
I do some and I let them do some too. If there is ever a warrantee issue or an inspection thing that I miss I want to know that they have the responsibility of having signed off on the inspection.Keep the stories coming. They are entertaining and they make the rare good dealers look better.

Doesn't really matter, as upper mgt is only interested in the bottom line. Dealers have to pay a couple thousand bucks to "stick the key in the door every morning", and they need to bring in maximum bucks to keep the gears turning.
Reminds me of a close friend of mine who was a service mgr at a Ford store. He told me that he has to park 3 service cars out back every day, never touch them, and hand the owners a bill when they come back in to pick up their car.
Closer to home, I had a dealer charge me for SYN3 and put in Dino. His response? Whoops, my bad....I'll put the SYN3 in for you. Don't know if he actually did, but that was the last time I ever let anyone change my oil.
