In the end, it all boils down to making money and if you dont pay for it, and HD (or Ford, Chev or whatever) dont pay for it-then I'm paying for it. There is NO free money

thanks-i feel better now

Can't say I even figured out why the upper management comment was made. Or if it's true. I talked to a designer at the dealer show that said they can got to forums. 'Course I guess you gotta define upper management.

Anyway, how does it apply here? Subject was dealers. Dealers aren't owned by Harley. They are a middleman. They buy the bike from Harley. Harley reimburses for some things. Service is the bread and butter of a dealer. That is where that small business owner makes a majority of the money that keeps that place going.

Anyway this new guy is asking everyone if they have changed out the air in their tires to the new nitrogen they are offering for touring bikes only. For only $9.50 he says they will change out your H2O (water) for N (nitrogen).
Are you for real?
No way a guy told you that!!
lol too funny
The dealer told me that if I put Rhinehardt pipes on it would void my warranty, but if they put them on it will be fine as I am going through them for warranty.
Tell me how that makes any sense.
Its not like you can put them on wrong, I am not going to do the tune, lol unreal man.

Its hard to want a new bike when you think about all this, its like I cant support this type of nonsense, would rather buy used and enjoy the bikes without the dealer experience.

Good one. The reason being that most have not learned to read yet, no doubt.
Unofficially, I believe many Gen. Mgr./Owners/Principals logs into this particular forum every day when they have time, simply because it is the leading HD forum out there. This is an excellent place for them to get a pulse of what the sensitive issues are with owners of Harley Davidson products. In addition, many Harley mechanics lurk here as well, although you would never know it. I know of only one man in particular who logs in here who has come out of the closet and admits to working at a dealership. He seems like a real decent stand up guy.

They may read this stuff but do they listen? We had a dealership that lost 6 bikes sales last year from there own HOG members. If, I was the GM, I would have had a sit down with all and ask "Why"? My to cents!

You know like "If you don't let us do the maintenance on your new bike, it will affect your warranty from the factory".

Or another popular load they will sometimes tell customers is that "If you use anything except Harley Synthetic oil you will void your warranty".

Just recently I have heard that the local Harley shop had hired a new Service Adviser or whatever they are calling them. You know, the guy that writes up the order to service your bike when you take it in. Anyway this new guy is asking everyone if they have changed out the air in their tires to the new nitrogen they are offering for touring bikes only. For only $9.50 he says they will change out your H2O (water) for N (nitrogen). I am guessing this guy is working on commission.
Anybody else got some good ones?
This sounds like a troll post.

I cant say for sure about the auto dealers. And buy no means am I "pro- dealer" I'm not....having said that
I personally work with a guy who he and his dad had the money and was vetted buy HD to open a dealership back in 08 just about 3-6 months before the bottum dropped out.
You have to produce a specific amount of revenue from all the product streams.
Sales, serv, parts and clothing.....Its a friccink ridiculous amount of hoops to jump through. If you cant produce they will pull your franchise....
That is why "I" think dealers that are really close to not making their numbers will turn a blind eye to stupid sales practices and promises...

I had a great conversation with the sales manager at my dealership who explained the vicious cycle the the MOCO creates for failing dealerships. It happened to the one in Coopersburg, PA. Once you get behind it is impossible to catch back up. The require a certain amount of sales of t-shirts and knick-knacks. If you end up having to sell it on clearance for a loss you still have to do it again next year. All the while if you don't have the money to buy this crap from the MOCO they will lend you the money. That's where they really start to sink. Keep borrowing and you eventually reach your credit limit with the MOCO. Now they start to short you on bikes. Who wants to go to a dealer that has an empty showroom? Then it all ends in bankruptcy.

Well other than the owners of a dealership, nobody else cares about the pulse of whats going on, and even an owner might not care.

Their job at the dealership is to make a profit, either buy selling you a bike, some parts, clothing, warranty options, etc.. not service them, yes they have a service department but unless a warranty is paying the dealership to do the work they arent going to do it.
unless you are paying for it, and then it is a for profit part of the business and it is also a product or service from which to profit.
Coming on here and hearing people bitch isnt going to influence anyone one way or the other, why would it?
Again when they go back to work they have a job to do selling bikes, calling leads, scheduling services, etc.. plus there own set of headaches from warranty issues, unsatisfied customers, etc..

You do realize Harley Davidson's Lawers do not allow Upper Management on this site.
first of all the most they could say is you cant log onto that site on the companies pcs, but they cant tell them to stay off this site, they can go home and do whatever they want.
second, I doubt they would want to come on for anything other than sales leads.
