Default Oil Draining out of Tank??
What causes the oil to drain out of tank (into crankcase) after the bike sits for 2 to 3 days? the bike is a 2008 twin cam with a Fueling Pump & Plate..

Probably due to the check valve in the oil pump.

I think there is an oring between the cam plate and oil pump that my be leaking.

I've heard of and have experienced this issue with Softails where the oil tank sits higher than the oil pump, but what oil tank are you referring to on a Touring Model?

The oil pan and oil level on a Touring bike sits at or below the oil pump so how can the oil drain from the pan to the crankcase?

It is a softail(sorry)..thought I would post here because there are way more visitors on the touring side

Put the hsrley plste and pump back in it, it will be fixed. Its the way the fueling pump is made that causes it

It’s a problem that sometimes plagues soft-tails.

My 04 Fatty did this from time to time. I’ve never experienced any damage from this issue.

As the above poster said, it’s basically a leaking check valve.

Just make sure you run it for a couple of minutes before checking the oil level for an accurate reading.
