Probably been beat to death over the years. New used bike to me. Has a Big Sucker, and some slip ons. Bike seems to have quite of bit of power, and this is coming from a Buell Rider. Doesn't show any signs of running lean. Engine seems to run cool, and on deceleration there is no backfiring, just a little bit of gurgling.
The bike runs good, the only drawback is 37mpg, and that is riding it like an old man.
Is this normal? I would have expected about 42-43..
Oh, the bike came from an auction, so I have no idea what may or may not have been done to it.
Since you are on this Forum I assume it is a HD Tourer. I get the same mileage as you in the city and a little more on the highway on my 06 RKC and I got the same on the Heritage Classic before this one and the Dyna before that (all 88TC)
If the 37MPG is city, doesnt sound bad to me, sense a Buell rider thinks it runs strong. May have been built a bit or at least have a Stage 1 & cams. Recently did a Stage 1 with cams and the first tank of 170 miles, approx. 100 Hwy. & 70 City, I only got 33MPG but Hwy. is usually 75-80 MPH (ok, maybe hit 90MPH once or twice!) and there were more than a couple time my right wrist got a little out of control.
Sorry. it is a 2007 Road King. Most of my riding has been a mix of city and country highway.
I stay out of 6th under 70mph, so cruising on the country roads is usually around 60mph in 5th gear.
So I guess that sounds pretty normal then. I could get close to 50mpg with my Ulysses, and that had a 'claimed' HP of over 100. I guess I gotta keep in mind that was in the 400's and this is what in the 700's? Weight wise?
Congrats on the new bike. It sounds like the mileage is about where its expected. I would pull the seat and the side panels to see if there is an ECM added. Sounds like it runs pretty good.
