Exactly. I am constantly scraping my floorboards on my Road King and have been for years. Scares the OL but I no longer give it a thought. Using your feet does not sound like a good idea. Besides the hazards mentioned, floorboards will outlast your boot soles.

and my dad rides very conservatively...i respect him. of course, he isnt so closed minded that he thinks this generation is "hey look at me, oh **** im dead"

but hey, you're obviously older and wiser and your opinion is the only one that matters.

As far as using the toes,,,, "keep all hands and feet inside the ride"
My boards are raised up, so occasionally I'll drag the jiffy stand.

stupid_rope, id save your breath... This guy apparently enjoys hating on what other people do rather than doing his own thing. There's no point in trying to talk sense into these people, its never "to each his own", its always "im right and you're stupid, wrong, young, dumb, etc" with them.

He should try getting off the computer and riding some, might calm him down...

I know when i leave work in a few hours im gonna be on my bike and thats where my heads at, not what some guy on the internet is doing with his life...

I might be in the slow down camp. I am not dragging my feet or toes in curves and hit my floor boards once in a while on my Lo. I don't think much of it. If they wear out, I will put some new ones on. However, I don't flip em up or stare at the bottoms too much so it does not really matter to me.

I watched a guy drag his foot (or more like catch it) and dump the bike resulting in a pretty good wreck. Just saying that sounds like a riskier move. Best bet: take it a bit slower, Sparky.

I'm on my third set of floorboard pans in 50,000 miles. I grind them until the back outside corner goes through the top. I have a racing background, road, drag, MX, flattrack and supermoto. I'm not saying I was good just a typical middle (or back) of the pack guy. I will say a couple of things.
  1. You don't accomplish a great deal by hanging off the seat on these bikes. Your weight (most of us) is not enough in proportion to the weight of the bike to change much CG wise. The lean angle of these bikes is so small that you don't make much difference. Additionally you can set up an instability that starts a wobble, especially if your steering head is close to the max tolerance.
  2. There does come a point when leaning the bike and scraping the boards that you will hit the frame or some other nonforgiving part. At that point the wheels will lift and you will lose traction and slide. Until that point these bikes ('09 and newer for sure) will continue to track and perform well. I have been there. Not intentionally dragging but in accident avoidance (a truck ran a light). I barely avoided crashing but scraped flat spots my frame, left saddlebag, left exahust, and left crash bar. Plus the imaginary hole my *** sucked out of the seat as I was sliding sideways down a busy city street.
I ride with fast guys and guys who like to take their time. Its all cool. We just wait at any intersections where we change roads. everybody knows that and rides their ride in their comfort zone.

Who wouldve thought that the ability to push a bike to its limit is a riding skill that can be used in certain situations for accident avoidance... I thought we all just had deathwishes (or high testosterone)

I don't see a problem here. Heck the side part of my floor boards are almost completely ground off. I assume at some point they will no longer touch the ground.
