Default Who's running Vieds?

Who's running Vieds? Are these just as good as a tuner? What kind of affect does these have mpg? With a decatted pipe and stock mufflers will my mpg be about the same? Curious at what to expect with the changes and deciding about Vieds.

i use XIEDS ( non-adjustable) on my 2009 FLHTC which does not have a cat in the header. hi flow ness big sucker intake, hi flow supertrapp pipes.

MPG before 44 MPG/ after 43 MPG ( my typical riding is 65~70 on 2 lane hwys) this is measured over thousands of miles.

for my needs, the perfect solution.

My bike pinged when dead stock under certain conditions ( 2800~3200 rpms up a 6% grade, solo or loaded)- xieds solved that and I was then able to swap to my pipes and air cleaner of choice to good result.

If you have future plans to do other work such as cams/heads etc. you may do better with a "tuner" which can be altered to match when you do the work on your bike.

i leave my Harleys at stage 1

Mike

I added the Vied's when I changed out my 2012 cat pipe. The package is not as good as a full tuner with custom map, but it worked out pretty well for me.

The stock pipes got louder (just right for me) so the valve train noise I had before is no longer noticable. The heat went way down, the throttle response got much better, mileage stayed the same, and the bike pulls much better at low revs. I have good throttle response now in 6th gear, and do not need to down shift as much. Bike cruises with little effort at 85-95.

Took me about 15 minutes to install them, with much of the time just putting on some tie straps to make for a nice, clean install.

The came with instructions as to how to set the adjuster, and I am running just the way they suggested.

Bike feels much smoother and stronger now, and there is absolutely no backfiring on decel.

Very happy with the results.

Now I an wondering if a high flow air cleaner would offer me any benefits. (stock slip on's)

Disclaimer: I have much less testing miles than any of the previous posters I'm sure. I know that mkguitar has done some extensive field testing and I would trust he and the others. However, I can't help but add my two cents.

I have a '12 Street Glide. I added some XIED's in stock condition. There was a remarkable seat of the pants improvement in throttle response, particularly down low in the rpm range. It seemed to pull harder, and was a much more enjoyable ride.

Added Supertrapp 4" Stouts & SE A/C. Ran well, not too many miles in this condition. No complaints and still better than stock. Hard to tell as I'd just changed slip-ons and A/C. For some reason I'd talked to some folks that said that it may be wise to get the HD Stage 1 map download, and that then adding the XIED's it'd run even better. OK . . . what the hell.

XIED's OFF when I take it to dealer for a bunch of reasons that have been debated in other threads. Whatever, I took them off. The ride to the dealer to perform the download the bike ran like CRAP. CRAP! No throttle response, no power, no nothing.

Stage 1 download the bike runs about like it did when it was stock off the showroom floor. Definately better than no map, no XIED. I'm going to run it this way for a short while just to get a better feel and see how my mileage goes. I've been averaging in the low 30's. Not sure if it's the amount non-interstate miles or what, but not very good in my opinion. Honestly, I can't wait to put the XIED's back on in anticipation it will return to that stong pulling, improved throttle response bike I know it can be!

I plan no further engine mod's so I think this will do it for me. I picked mine up from a forum member at a great price, you'll see them for sale now and then so I just kept my eyes open last Spring. If you think you'll need to take the next step up, might I suggest you check this thread/review of Fuel Moto's EFI Micro Tuner by fellow forum member Garemlin if you were wanting to go a next step and feel the VIED's/XIED's were not quite enough.

Running VIED's on a 12 UC with Wild Pig pipes. No change to MPG for me. I also picked them up on the forum for a great price.

Just bought a set of VIEDs from a Forum Member also. I'm waiting until I have the 1000 mile service done before I install them; but I'm just doing a Stage 1 so I should be fine
