So I keep seeing people mentioning that the Truck Lite headlights "stick out" from the stock HD headlight housing. What's that mean? Does that mean there's space in between the stock trim ring and the housing? Doesn't that mean water and debris can get in easily? Will a decorative trim ring fix that (and how will that work, since I assume the trim ring's "backside" is made to fit the housing just like the stock one is)? Pics would help...

HD LED's Yes and No
I had a chance to compare the new 2014 FLHTCU LED's to the 2005 FLHTCUI before it left for it's new home.
I had an Ultra Superstar headlamp and small aircraft landing lights in the Aux lamp housings in the 05.
Yes
The LED headlamp was so much brighter and whiter than the 05, there was no comparison.
I thought the a/c lamps were day & night compared to the OEM aux lamps.
The new LED aux lamps were day & night compared to the a/c lamps.
I actually prefer riding at night, once the snow and salt are gone for good, I'll take a ride to some twisties 20 miles from here and then be able to tell for sure.
No
I don't care for the MoCo's add-on rear LED lamps when you install a Tour-Pak detach kit.
I installed a 13" rear turn signal bar and plugged it into the sockets under the brake/license lamp lens, and no CAN-BUS problems. The Electraglide and Streetglide use the same stuff, so I didn't expect a problem.

Here's a link to a older thread with very good pics of the Truck-Lite 7 installed. It shows how the TL7 sticks out with the stock trim ring. It also shows what the TL7 looks like with a "Frenched" trim ring installed. The housing is sealed so no worries about water or debris. I went with the HD Reflector LED (similar to the TL7) and it fits correctly with the stock ring and the look and quality is allot better IMO, but it cost more of course.
I put the Daymaker on my Street Glide, it's expensive, but I'd do it again. I really like how much brighter it is, the only thing I don't like is the sharp cutoff. I'm told the 4" spots help with that in the corners. My friend has the Daymaker headlight, passing lights and Dynamic Ringz LEDs in the turn signals (white ring of light that turns amber when the turn signal is activated). That setup puts the "Day" in Daymaker. Impressive to be sure.
Mine's the latest Phase 7 'black' version and looks fine with frenched rim
Phase 7, LED bulbs($50 a pair) and custom dynamics turn signals much brighter than stock or even with a 100w bulb
Custom dynamics all round at the rear
I just picked up a reflector LED with LED halo off of ebay for a deal ($195). it should be here tomorrow. Supposed to be the same as Trucklight (without gap issues) and HD reflector style as I don't like the appearance or price of the HD daymaker (though the road glide style is alot better looking than the SG style, i must say). http://www.ebay.com/itm/7-LED-Headli...19584e&vxp=mtr
Have you had a chance to try this headlight? It looks nice, I'd be interested in reading some reviews.
I have the JW 8700 LED I bought from Eastern Performance, I was optimistic until I rode at night. It makes a really big difference illuminating down the road much further, and it gives you a really wide lit up view which is awesome!! Makes it much safer all the way around at night, especially on those back roads with little or no shoulder, deer are fun to hunt but they can be deadly on a bike.

Yes, this weekend I tried it out but...even before I buttoned up the installation I decided I did not like it. I did not wire up the halo LED's because when I test fitted this light, while everything fit well and it appears well made, the middle cross bar inside the lamp holding the LED's in place did not contain a chrome cover like the HD reflector does (can't speak for the TL model, but I think it has a black one). So, when I walked around the bike to check out sight lines from different angles, as if a cager were looking at me, the LED's literally blinded me - not from the reflectors in the back of the housing, but the LED's themselves. Not only do they reflect backwards into the housing but they reflect in every direction obviously, and without that cross member being covered directly looking at the LED lights is not recommended, but it's hard to resist a distraction like that, it's human nature to look at it like an involuntary reaction. I'm going to give the TruHID's a try since they are an affordable option, but if they don't work out I will probably get the HD reflector style.
This brightness may not bother you, though, like it does me. I should have snapped a few pics but I only took on of the light pattern against the wall. And for the price, it's all glass and appears to perform like other the other reflectors pattern-wise. plus, the seller offers a no-hassle return, which as an ebayer is a-ok in my book.
