I've got an 07 SG and I've been having problems with the volume switch/audio button. While riding, the screen on my stereo stays in the audio control mode and keepsalternating from bass, trebleand display. The problem is when I come to a stopor ifI just want toturn the volume down, I'm stuck either lowering the bass or treble and I'm unable to get the thing into volume control mode. I brought the bike in and they (HD) determined it was the switch and they replaced it. The new switch lasted about a week and now its doing the same thing. I'm guessing its just a cheap (poor quality) switch. Anybody else having this problem?
It can be a pain in the *** trying to turn the volume down when you don't have control because of a faulty switch and it can be a safety hazard if you had to turn down the volume in a hurryand couldn't. I pulled up to the guard shack this morning with the Zeppelin blaring and I could not turn it down. The guard got a kick out of it and I'll bet he really would have laughed if he new how much I paid for the bike.
Any ideas?
You are pushing the button in when you are trying to move it up or down. try it when you not riding it. I used to do it all the time, and still do when I have heavy gloves on.
I'd take that back to the dealer and keep bugging them till they get it right. I had a hell of a time with the stereo on my 07 Ultra and now have a complete new unit that works. Harley has had nothing but hell with these Harmon Kardon stereos
I have not had any problems with mine except tring to figure out what everything does.. The more I mess with it the more I learn. But I have had nothing to complain about except the operator either front or back.

The switch itself is not an engineering marvel by any means...
The'pin' that the button is mouted on has a brass 'sleeve' around it (inside the switch itself)...and is held in 'neutral position' by a small spring. Also within the switch, are3 brass contact points. It is a VERY simple design - in which the @ 'neutral' position, there is no contact being made...and when then the button is moved up/down/in the 'ground' isactivated and (whatever) function is controlable.
If you are not accidentally pressing the button...You could have failure in the 'spring', a bent contact within the switch, or the brass 'sleve' could be mis-alligned. Unfortunately none of those can be repaired without replacing the switch.
In my experience, you need to let the dealer know that you are having the problem, and tell them to order the switchBEFORE you drop the bike off for service...They won't have the part in-stock, and it will add a week to your down-time. Also, if you are planning on doing any upprades to your handlebar controls (chrome levers, chrome switch-housings, etc...), schedule them at the same time...that way you can off-set a bit pf the labor for your 'upgrade' while they are doing the warranty work. Also, tell the dealer NOT to make the 'new' wiring connection for the replacement switch inside the switch housing - that can cause problems down the road...
Not having that problem, however, about once every couple weeks my CD player will just stop working. Can advance to next song, but will not play...stays at 0:00?? Turn off the bike and come back and it works fine. Doesn't happen frequently enough to take it into the dealer.
yep! Harely has been having trouble with these new radios.
along with a myriad of other things.
Just goes to show you you get what you pay for. (talking about employees that is)
How much worse you think it will get if hd wins the strike and lowers wages and benefits.?
Did anyone come up with a home solution to this issue?
I have a 2011 Road Glide. Both of my thumb controls ( mainly the volume) is not working. I have an after market Pioneer radio with an amp. Both have been on the bike over a year and a half. I just had my bike painted. Now the controls are not working. Also, my Dokota digital gauges for gas/fuel and temp are giving false readings. The temp is reading at 285 degrees or higher, even when the bike has been off all night. The fuel gauge starts off at empty, then slowly increases while I ride to the correct level.
