I run an HID headlight with a microballast. On a RK the bulb is too deep on a dual stage (high/low), so I knixed the high and just run a low but it is SUPER bright. I also run led driving lights. Couldn't find oem plug led replacements so I took the oem bulb and cut the end off. Then soldered the led bulbs to the oem plug. They work fantastic.
I agree that proper aiming is critical so you avoid pissing everyone off.
I have the truck lite phase 7 on my street glide. I have great distance with it. The cut offs are great. It's defiantly brighter than my buddies sporty with HIDs. I like that I don't have to hide the ballast and deal with extra wires. HIDs can still burn out over time.
The cost of the LEDs are up there but for me I like the LED and I prefer it.
When I installed my truck lite I had to adjust the light and then it was perfect. I also do not have any problems during the day with my light not being seen.
Check out my album for the pictures of it.
I am sure you can make the HID work and its bright, but its really a hack. Sure you can spend $30, spend the extra hour or so to install, but its a gamble. The ballast is one more thing, gets hot and there is extra wiriing (cons) pluses cheap and bright...
I'm OK with the Daymakers in my RGU. Having twin bulbs its like daylight in front of me. Its also wide and deep. No issues in corners even on the fixed fairing. Also being solid state it better have longer life or I'm kicking a$$ for the cost!
Haven't tried the 7", but didn't like the beam pattern on the 5 3/4" one (my CVO springer). Was bright, but th patten wasn't big.
They sell the single bulb in Hi/Lo for the bat wing models which is cheaper.
Read the directions (super simple installation) and run the power source to the battery, not the positive spare wire Harley has near the headlight which is powered through the ignition switch.
I just installed the Phase 7 LED trucklites, both headlight and spots, on my 05 EG Classic. World of difference between the halogen. Far better throw out front, and a wider pan with the spots. I ordered them from PhatPerformance products. Great service and fast shipping...for whatever that's worth. I've not ridden at night with them yet, but that's coming.
don't know but how many different company's do you think make them ? and then just put them in what ever box , might be the same company that makes your $80 bulb
