A bunch if my friends have them and I saw them at the NYC motorcycle show. When I called them last week to order a set they said they were sold out of the darla model which is what I wanted. Very cool people to deal with. And they have a couple of different mount options.

Regardless of the cost, if they prevent you from getting hit once they've paid for themselves several times over at least.

I have been contemplating the moto lights for a bit now and feel a little closer to getting them.

Between them and my annoying headlight modulater I might have a bit more of a chance.

This is very true. However you also want to consider how far the light will project in front of you. The lumens only give you a measurement of light output at the source. How much light is hitting anything 200 feet forward of you is affected by many things. You'll want to do some homework unless you have the money to go "trial and error".

As far a Silverstars go,they are DOT approved and therefor are no brighter than any other DOT bulb. The blue tint mat give the perception of brightness, but they ain't...............

not to highjack the thread- but is it possible to use an 55W HID conversion kit in the HD engine guard foglights? I have a bud looking to sell me a set of his unused HD foglights. I might consider going that route if it's something that can be done? I would imagine it would throw considerable light out there.
I'm just not overly impressed with the amount of light the stock HD foglights put out.

hmm.. not sure what blue tint you're referring to but the SU bulbs I run have no blue in them at all, just bright white and a TON brighter than stock bulbs.

Stock H4 HD DOT approved light puts out 700 lumens at low beam and 1200 lumens high beam.

SU H4 DOT approved bulb puts out 910 low beam and 1500 high beams. Doesn't seem like much but what sets it apart though is what it's rated at. 4100k which is a white light with an ever so slight tint of yellow to it.

You won't see blue light til you get into the 5700k and up bulbs..

I know changing the headlamp and passing lamps to HID kits in the state of texas is illegal. Not sure about the fog lamps but that's a great idea. Never thought about changing those yellowish bulbs to something that more closely matches my Silverstar Ultra setup.. I'm on a mission now.. Anyone know what size bulb that is off the top of your head?

The bulb has a blur tint on the exterior. If they meet DOT standards,i don't see how thwy can be brighter than any other DOT bulbs. Consumer reports tested bulbs back in 2004. All the Dot bulbs essentially had the same outputas measured by their lightmeter.................

Based on the ideas on this thread, I went ahead and mounted the Rigid Industries 6" SR-Q under the lower triple tree. I used the standard mount which came along with the unit and mounted it to a fabricated bracket made from angle iron. Also used their wiring and rocker switch. Also fabricated a small bracket with an attached p-clamp for the rocker switch (mounted next to seat and tank).

I know there is some concern as to whether there is enough clearance between the light and fender. I'll let you know in a couple weeks when I return from a 2000 mile trip to Skyline/BRP/Cherohala.

I also purchased the yellow cover which diffuses about 30%. The covers were relatively inexpensive and hopefully good for the rain and fog.

Here are some pics:
