OK guys heres the thing, had a noise in the engine seemed like from lifters so replaced them, didnt work.Borrowed a bore scope and have a heavy carbon deposit on both piston and intake valve, not leaking(done a leakdown)but the tapping is nuts.Diagnosis leaking valve seal,ok but no time have to make a 1500 mile trip in 2 days.So ? anything I can do to get some of the carbon off quick?Worried about big chunks scoring something or bending something important. Any kind of help much appreciated, thanks.
well,
you can always try spraying water into a running motor.
with motor running and intake exposed have someone crank the throttle wide open and at the same time spray as much a fine mist of water into the intake as you can, while keeping the motor running.
What brand of gas you using and are you doing oil changes on time? I've never heard of that much carbon build up in a properly maintained motor. As to removing it, you can add techron to the tank per the recommendations and it'll remove it as you ride. Since your're doing a long ride it should help clear it pretty quick. Chevron, Shell, Mobil, and Sunoco are good gasolines to use that will help prevent the build-up.
