Default Fairing Pouch Spacers - Needed?

Installed the HD 3-pocket fairing pouch and it came with spacers that fit between the outer and inner fairing. Kind of makes sense as the pouch material could compress over time and allow the three windshield screws to become loose. The only problem is that they don't allow room to loosen the windshield screws to swap out different shields and I'm worried that they'll drop between the fairing halves if I pull screws all the way out. Are these spacers really necessary?

If you're talking about the 3 round rubber feet that come with the kit? Those are feet that go between the bottom metal part of the pouches and the top of your inner fairing to stop the kit from rubbing on your inner fairing. I could be mistaken, but that's what I got with my kit when I bought it.

Yup! That's where mine were used. Also keeps it from rattling.

Can't remember at this point, but I think the pouches had built in little feet. These are alluminum (?) spacers that you have to hold in place as you insert the three windshield screws before reinstalling the windshield and then the pouch. After everything was secured, the spacers appear to fill the space in the windshield cut outs.

You should have gotten 3 longer screws as well. Hold the spacer in place with needle nose, start the screws, then install your shield and pouch set. Easy. I used the spacers on my pouch install. I figure they included them for a reason.

This is the version I think you are talking about. The rubber stick on feet were used on the older three pocket pouch that sat on top of the inner fairing. TexUltra nailed it on the install.

TexUltra did nail the install. Went just like he said. Now the question is, how do you switch shields without dropping those little spacers. Can't grab them with a needle nose now because they ride in the windshield cutouts.

I do not use the spacers and have no rattle. I switch windshields often and did not want to deal with them!

Yes you can, and just as easy. Loosen the 3 screws, remove the pouch set, wiggle the shield back and forth while pulling up on it. It'll pop out. Then reverse all that to install the new shield. Don't forget, there is no reason to remove the screws to change shields. Just loosen them.

How about gluing them on with weatherstrip adhesive?
