The compensator bolt does not have red loctite, at least not from the factory, on any I have taken apart. The clutch hub nut on the other hand, does use red loctite. You can use red loctite on the comp bolt but if you plan to take it off again later you may have some difficulty. The blue has worked fine for me.

Yes, red is what is recommended. The brand new nut I installed last year from Harley had white loctite on it. From experience, the white is the baddest stuff on the planet.

It all turns white after it's been on there awhile no matter what color it started out as.
Blue on the compensator bolt will work fine.

Yep blue is enough if torqued correctly.

EDIT: Service Bulletin M-1170 recommends 2 drops Loctite 262 ( That's the Red stuff.)

Guess I just learned something! But mine is a 2000 and with the hot forged crank in that model, my air impact gun has probably kept things tight regardless!

I used blue 20k miles ago and torqued correctly. Works fine no issues.

Quite correct.
But the Service Manual also says to put thread dope on your drain plugs even though there's an o-ring.
Neither are necessary.
I've been using blue too, sans air impact - never had one come loose until I wanted it off.
