I stepped up from a Fat Boy to my Electra Glide Classic. I tell you that fairing is a nice thing to have. Also like some one said earlier a Road King with all the added accessories will still be just a Road King.

I went from a Deuce to an EGC, I had a Ultra years ago but found I didn't want or need all the other extras and ended up taking them off.
Wen I went looking for a nagger again I knew I would not use all the extras so I got the EGC and love it, touring one minute and street cruiser the next

I had a 2011 road king with quick detach batwing, tour pack, lowers, cruise. I traded in on an ultra limited on Sunday, and I wish I would have just bought the ultra to begin with. I wanted the king so I could ride an ultra on a trip, then strip her down for local riding once I arrived, but the ultra is so much more balanced, I don't think I will even take the tour pack off, which I had planned the do this weekend!

Had a 2011 EGC after having 2 Road Kings. The EGC was a very nice motorcycle. Great bike for road trips. I ride solo and found riding the EGC when not on road trips was like driving Lincoln when all I wanted was Taurus (strange analogy, I know). So I went back to the Road King. I like to ride w/o the wi.dshielddshield

Not sure what your age has to do with the difference between an ultra and a stripped down ultra. If it has to be one or the other and you think it's your LAST bike, definitely buy the Electra Glide. You know what they say, there's the Electra Glide then there's everything else! (Actually I'm probably the only one that says that, but it's still true!) Pssst;Buy an ultra...

the e.g. classic is the best buy that harley offers. it is very traditional looking. add the lower triple tree wind deflector(was standard on the older models) and cruise control. buy the snap on lowers for rain/cold riding and throw them in the tour pack. that is all you need--go hit the open road and rack up some serious miles.

Love my EGC and don't want anything else. I used the money I saved on not buying Ultra to get what I really wanted... more power and more stereo. It makes long distance trips enjoyable.

Roadkings are great bikes. If you like the handling, you will miss it on the EGC or the Ultra. I've owned 3 of them and finally didn't want to have that handlebar mounted fairing anymore. My current bikes are a cvo roadglide and a police roadking. I plan to keep both for a longtime.

I say get the limited and be done with it. You can take off/replace whatever you don't want. The limited has just about everything you could want on a tourer stock.
