I went from an 06 RKC to an 09 EGC so to me the difference was a big one. I really like the fairing and the convenience of the tour pack, not withstanding going from the old type frame to the new one, from 88ci to 96 and 5 speed to 6.

I full intend for my Electra Glide Classic to be my last bike.....but I have said that before.

Noone can tell ya what ya want/need. I have a RK and EGS. The RK is lighter, windyer and more motorcycle like. The EGS is just more comfortable and relaxing, plus the tunes rock! If wind protection, trunk and/or stereo are important to ya, do it.

Wait a couple more years then decide . . .

reasons I like the EGC over the Ultra:

1.) don't need the CB

2.) don't want rear speakers- my tbag fits great in the pass seat, with speakers the Tbag would trash them

The Ultra comes with alot of extras that i don't care about- thus they have no value for me when it is time to pull out the wallet

I am on my 2nd EGC ( 1995 and 2009)- both have added fairing lowers, which I like very much
I also added side lights to the tour pak...
The 09 came with an airwing rack and LEDS, so that helps the rear running/brake light thing- also came with sec/cruise/abs

I do not in anyway regret not buying the Ultra...I saved about $4000

My modifications:
fairing lowers
fairing deflectors
FLHX seat, shocks, pegs ( stock stuff goes on when I tour) I also have a solo seat
3 windscreens- I match the height to the seat...my seated height
detachable tourpak kit
FLHR signal bar plate mount
added leds for brake function to fender tip
and a few other things ( stage1)

I have the Ultra and use everything on it...mostly because it is there, but have no desire to take them off either. As with everything else, it is a personal choice as to what you will use and what you don't need/want.

I was in the same boat as you. On my 50th birthday I bought the EGC. Personally I didn't want the "extras" the Ultra had and the cost difference was not worth it. Just buy it and be glad you did because you will. 2013 is the last year for the EG Classic? Glad I got mine, now she is definitely a keeper!! Buy it. Hopefully it is black but if not who cares? Most importantly do you like it? I say yes, a vehement yes!!

....LOL!!

Seriously, buy it.

I've had three Ultras. 98, 08, 09 and now a 13 Classic. All of the Ultras were great on trips but not so much fun around town and bar hopping. I enjoyed my Ironhead for that.
I didn't talk on the CB but did listen on the Interstate. Wife rides with me one week out of the year. I just don't need all that extra stuff that often.
The Ultra just had too many wires for a quick detach for me.
I might add the lowers one day, they really cut down the wind from under the fairing.

Now, in five minutes I can go from highway to local mode. It's like having two bikes in one.

I went from a 2012 RK to a 2013 EG Limited, it was a night and day difference, and I love the extra storage. I just had V&H power Duals and Monster Rounds and a SEST installed. Great bike and it handles almost as well as my RK did. The wife really likes it. I think the ABS and the extra lights on the back make it a safer ride for stopping power and the extra lights in the back help make you more visable.

I like the batwing bikes and just like my autos the more gadgets the better. The Ltd I have is probably my last bike. At 62 I think it will last me. If you really like all the things you said you did I would go for it. But only you know for sure.

I heard in a couple of years Harley will be coming out with the Electra Glide Ultra Death Star Classic with the optional popup side mounted laser attachments.

Just having fun here, I never thought I would want all the neat extras, but they are just too cool to not have anymore.
