Default Electra Glide Classic

I have a '12 RK and am pleased with it. I was at a dealer today and was looking at a '13 Electra Glide Classic. I like the batwing, radio, gauges, tour pack, etc. My sales guy (bought my three previous scooters from him) made me a very tempting deal on a trade. At my age, I don't really want to step up to a Limited or an Ultra. Given that this is the last year for the Classic, what do you guys think? The RK or a new Classic will probably be my last bike.

So is the price difference enough to get you out of the RK? Otherwise think about slowly adding a batwing, radio, tourpack, etc.. to your RK since its the same bike basically just without that stuff. This way you can paint it and make it your own custom Ultra!

I understand your logic and it comes down to the fairing. If you like it, buy it because it's a whole different motorcycle with the fairing up front. Personally I'm of the age where I only want a bike with a fairing, it's just too damn nice back there!

I've had an EGC,and after a few months I wished I would have gotten the Ultra. I will say its a much better bang for your buck over the SG. The MoCo is axing it probably because of that. Just like they did with the EG standard. I say go for it,the protection of the fairing is great, and the tp is very handy.

The EGC is probably the best buy in the FL line. Drop the tour pack and you have a Street Glide, add lowers and you have an Ultra. Not exactly but close enough for the money.

We had a Road King with the fairing and trunk added but it was still a Road King with added stuff. We turned it into an Ultra in April and honestly now wished I had bought the Ultra in the first place.

Having everything as part of the design vs. add ons is a big plus and a lot cheaper. You also don't see the value of the bike go up when you do the add ons.

As glidetomeetu pointed out, you could easily add all the items of an Electra Glide piece by piece and end up with a Streetglide or an Electra Glide. I've had one Electra Glide Classic and three Ultra's based in part because I thought in the long run I'd want most of what is on an Ultra and that the price difference was pretty reasonable. The cool thing about doing it piece by piece is you don't have to add the lowers of an Ultra, or maybe you'd set up the Tour-Pak as a detachable, or maybe instead of a full-sized Tour-Pak you might want the chopped version to make the bike more sporty looking. One thing that is on the Ultra is a CB and with all three Ultras, I've never used it. Total waste of space... I've never owned a RK and I'm sure I'd enjoy the ride, but going to or making your RK into a Classic or Ultra would be my choice over the RK.

I'd add up the total cost of everything that you do like on a Classic or Ultra and compare that to the cost difference to do a trade.

I like my EGC I've had it for 2 years and it was a huge upgrade from my night train. I will admit it would be nice to have all the gadgets of the limited but........ Some times the simplicity of the classic is nice as well.

I went from a Softail to an EGC. Looked at all of them and made my choice. I didn't think I would use all the extra's that came with the others and didn't want the lowers. I like and use the tour pack a lot, so much I really never use the bag's only on long trips. The radio and cruise are really got to have items in my book.
