Default Info on removing read speaker pods?

I'm thinking about removing the rear speaker pods on my '12 UC. Anyone done this, or know of a web site with information on how to do it? I think the hard part would be relocating the switches in the sides.

Thanks, ride safe

Not sure why you would want to...but in any event it is in the service manual. If you don't have one, I would recommend getting one. It will pay for itself many times over if you like doing your own work on the bike.

As far as relocating the switches....you would be on your own there.

As far as "why," there's probably several reasons.

I may need to do/have it done on my '13 FLTRU as well, so I'm curious as to how it's done.

Seems to me the complicated parts are what to do with all the wire end, and then sealing the holes left by the bolts that attach the pods.

Just curious...is the reasoning behind this have to do with passenger room? I bought an ultra SE in March, and it had been a while, but seem to remember the last time I had owned one that there was a bit more room for the passenger. A George Anderson Tour Pak extender took care of the problem. Stupidly simple to install...took all of 15 minutes. Problem solved.

I've got a service manual, SlowRain. I was looking for "real world" experience. I am particularly interested in where the various audio controls might be relocated. I do NOT want to lose the use of the passenger headset.

In my case, I don't care about the controls back there at all. I may need to just lose those pods altogether.

Yes, in my case, it's a passenger comfort issue. The pods dig into my wife's hips a bit, and it may be necessary to ditch them. (We don't use any of the audio, ever.) We're going to try padding the area first, though.

Might want to throw it over to the DIY forum. There are some whiz kids that probably have done this before. I have never thought about the idea of relocating the communication switches....however the plug in for the second headset is external to the pod if I remember correctly, so could probably be removed fairly easily. Maybe the answer would be using the existing wiring and using new switches in some sort of console? Just a thought.

Dave, removing the rear speaker pods is a simple task, however making the Tour Pak look like it's never had the pods mounted would be a much bigger task. Perhaps you might "swap" your for one that doesn't have the pods ( and controls ) installed ... Maybe off an Electra Glide? Here's the instructions for installing the pods ... Hope this helps.

That's a thought. What I was thinking was to "shrink" the pods so that they're just big enough for the audio controls. I'm thinking a piece of plywood, padded and covered with black vinyl with cutouts for the controls. I would do not want to lose the passenger controls for the helmet plug. If I do remove the speakers and keep the helmet plug, I think I'll have to wire a resistor to the now unused speaker connections (2 ohm?). I seem to remember from my electronic days, that there should be some resistance or you risk amp damage.

Thanks

If you do remove them and want to sell them, send me a PM.
