That is BADAZZ!!! I say mod your VROD!! Everyone and their brother has a Glide. A modded VROD won't get lost in a parking lot of other bikes.

All VRod Road glide needs is a tour pak and you're ready to go! That's the answer, but I'd really like to see one with a batwing instead of a shark nose.

I can tell you from personal experience just go buy the Street Glide. I fooled with this same notion for months before deciding to buy an FL. There is NO WAY, and I mean NO WAY to EVER make the VRSC as comfortable, long distance, as a dedicated touring bike. Secondly, it isn't that unique a concept. There are actually quite a few out there already. I'll point out some obstacles to consider as far as aesthetics go, the first being the rear shock angle of the VRSC which will require you to either set the bags behind the shocks and protrude way off the a$$ end of the bike, or you'll have to space the bags about 2-2.5" off the sides of the fender and even then probably just barely clear the swingarm on suspension compression. Next is the instrument cluster (if you're doing a batwing conversion) that you will have to contend with unless you don't plan on running an inner fairing, and then why bother with the batwing at all if you don't want to enjoy all it has to offer. Then there's the issue of the Road Rod kit rear fender skirt which really looks just plain bad, like an afterthought. Oh, and if you ride a passenger you'll need to accommodate relocating the passenger foot pegs as well. All in all, not worth the headache in the long run or the money which you'll NEVER get back out of it when you eventually sell it.

Here is a good link to a place where everyone will contradict what I'm saying. Hell, I'm in those threads somewhere talking about doing the batwing v rod conversion for awhile:

http://www.1130cc.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=86

Here is an idea of the batwing on a newer v rod:

This was as far asI went with my 07 VRSCDX NRS before I sold it in favor of the SG:

Vrod is a sport bike ,I would keep it that way .Maybe add a detachable bag for carrying stuff or a small fairing like the one above. But keep the look of a sport bike. You will lose most of your handling if you start adding all that other Bagger stuff. Like said if you want a touring bike buy one.

If Harley comes out with a water cooled touring bike in the next few years I'd have to give it a serious look. Good Luck!

You will see liquid cooled this year. That can be taken to the bank. Heads only...

A zillion years ago, I sorta had something like this. A Honda Magna done up for touring. Big Vetter Windjammer fairing, huge modified Califia bags, etc.

It was neither fish nor fowl.

On the highway, it buzzed and droned and generally did everything it could to exhaust you. Try as I did, I could never make it as comfortable and plush as a Goldwing.

Around town, it had a fast engine, and a thoroughly overwhelmed suspension and chassis. All that weight, sitting up high. The bike was awkward. Terribly awkward.

One time on a cross country trip I encountered another gent who had a similar setup, only his was based on a Yamaha V-Max. We compared notes, and while his bike was faster, overall they were the same. Uncomfortable, awkward, fast.

It was fun and it was interesting having that thing, but I own a Harley bagger now, and it's not an accident. I rather suspect a Vrod based bagger or touring bike would be very much the same

But, if the notion makes your heart skip a beat, than you should definately build it.

It did have its fun points. We've got to go way back in time, back to when Harley was just coming out with that new fangled Evolution engine. That's when I had this Magna monster. It was black and ratty, and frequently mistaken for a Harley (hard to believe, I know). I even rode with some friends who had Harleys. We got it down to an art. Some kid on a KZ or CB or such (I said we had to go way back in time) would be talking trash at the light. We'd pull up, and I'd be hidden in the middle of the pack. Light would turn green, and the kid would take off, smoking the Harleys to show the superiority of japanese motorcycles. The pack would open, and out I'd come. Being young and bullet proof, I'd usually be riding a wheelie, and screaming at about 10-14,000 rpm. There was something about this black monster ripping past that would invariably cause the kid on the KZ to feel the need to turn off at the next street. That was fun, serious fun. Doing that with a VRod bagger would also be serious fun.
