Default Wheel/Tire dilema

I have an 05' Road King Classic. This is my first bike, and i couldn't be happier. I love it. I put about 7,000 miles on it so far. I have about 28,000 on the bike. My issue is that i have already replaced the front tire, and rear tire once, and the rear tire is due again. I put an OEM tire back on. I am lucky if i have 5,000-6,000 miles on it, and its almost flat in the middle.
When i had the back tire replaced, i had 3 spokes broken, and they replaced them and showed me how they were ovaling on the hub. I noticed another broken spoke this spring. The wheel is about shot! I am considering getting rid of the spoke wheels although i do like the look of them. I am considering switching to cast wheels, and non-WWW tires, but i', not sure i'll like the look. I can get a set of Road King standard wheels from a 2010. Will a 5" rear wheel fit an 05' without any problems? Any thoughts? I know most of it is a matter of preferance other than the wheel size questions. Thanks!

The 09 and up rear wheel will not fit without major surgery. The front will work with either a bearing change to fit your 1" axle or an axle change to fit the new wheels 25 mm bearing ID. 07 and down wheels are a bolt-in. 08 wheels will fit with a bearing or axle change due to ID changes in the bearings. Clear as mud, right?

You could have your current wheels rebuilt with new spokes, which will probably make them as good as new and also be the cheapest solution. There are also plenty of suitable stock cast 00-07 wheels that will fit, or you can use new wire custom wheels. Take a look in the classifies here on HDF, also at Ebay, where you can buy suitable secondhand wheels.

As for your tyres, if you are heavy, or often ride 2-up, that can contribute to wearing out the centre tread of your tyres. It may be worth trying slightly higher pressures.

Yeah, I'm not heavy, 170lbs. I do ride two up about half the time. I think that combined with riding a lot of tar/chip roads, which they love to do in the country here in PA because its cheap, wears the crap out of them. Oh well, i guess thats the price you pay for one of the best things in life, riding!
