Interesting thread, makes you wonder if it's related to road crap, cleaning solutions or what. doesn't seem to be a common problem at all. I do however switch to Metzlers when the stock Dunlops take a crap, never had that issue with them and generally seem to get better wet road handling. Had them on my BMWs for years, got to like the handling and wear.
Wow some great help from the first few posters, god forbid someone miss types S or a D they are so far apart on a keyboard.
As far as the OP sir it is not the soap or the sun or improper inflation cracking new tires. Not sure but it is not a owner caused issue. I believe it is manufacturing problem.
I am on my 4th front Dunlop, 11 SG. It seems to be free from cracking 10 months and 10g miles. There are many threads on these cracking sidewalls but neither Harley or Dunlop acknowledges the issue, They just replace until you get one that doesn't crack. Many say its not a big deal but i wasn't comfortable riding with them. Good luck
So far all of the tires were built in '12. No Dawn, parked in a garage and covered. The tires are wearing perfect because I check pressure every time I ride it. Craftynicknamehere, I've always heard that a crack in a motorcycle sidewall is never cosmetic And you are right no one is wanting to acknowledge the issue. This will be my fourth tire and I am making sure that I get a much newer build date (even though when they were replaced the build date was pretty current). If this one doesn't work I will go with a different brand.

I remember some of the threads the OP is talking about, it seems to be an issue with a few riders here. I have 8000 on my tires now and they are the first thing I am gonna check when I get back from sucking sand this time. I agree it is a problem that is happening to some of the new dunlops. Here are links to a few of the threads. 49 DAYS LEFT, WOOOHOOO!!!
