The whole IPB thing with is currently a mind boggle for me.. I had mine replaced at 16k...Thats when i installed the Hayden..Welp low and behold a few weeks ago i started to hear the same noise again.29k....pissed to say the least,,im going to the dealer next week.had it done there mainly because i didn't have the time to deal with it, and see what they say...
Sorry to hear that, hope you have good luck at your Dealer. Did you install the old or new style Hayden?
So call them and buy the older less rigid spring which is what I got with the kit I bought on ebay. Mine is doing just fine. I was told the chain will wear into the shoe until it reaches the rollers then stop wearing, I dont understand what the panic is all about.
Once again here is mine after it's installed I checked it after 500 miles and it still looks the same:
I thought I was ****, looks like you waxed the inside of your primary and all of the components.

Actually all I did is put the M6 in at 10000 miles and put the cover back on without even using a new gasket. I change primary oil every time I do a 3500 mile oil change....guess that helps? It did look pretty new in there.
Stiggy...at what mileage did you install your Hayden?..
This was mine after about 11 thousand miles of service on mine..Installed it right about 17 k and checked for the third time at 28k..At 28k this was the first time it would need a shim, which is when i found the spring broken...I cant tell you when the spring broke though as i couldn't tell it was broken. (the force of the shoe kept the broken part together on the spring.)
Hayden sent me the new version with the new springs free of charge..Still wondering what caused this though?..
You can see that the "inside" spring had broken at the base, and also the larger spring had bent forward and i would assume what caused the front wear on the shoe..
Mine has been in since I took the bike in trade at the Dealer where I worked Aug '07 at 23,900 miles. It has 130,000 on it now. No adjustments / shims necessary in that time. ( I drive it gently though, many miles but never flat out, etc .)
The only way I can see driving style contributing to excessive wear on the M6 is if you decelerate in gear real hard which would cause the chain to compress the spring pretty hard. If you don't do that much, and if your driving it relatively normal no problems should be encountered or any abuse be subjected to the springs. Remember the heavier springs are for motors with heavy performance builds. The regular (older spring) is designed for stock builds. I would be curious to see what the driving style of the member with the broken spring is just as a reference point.

TUCCI, you have version 'n' of the recent tensioner: mine doesn't have the top line engraved "Made in USA" and I have the round notch in the shoe. This may help Kathy & her colleagues to trace any difference of spring tension if it can help.

Tucci, that was my Hayden...I do ride aggressive, engine brake a lot ect...I do though have a stock motor..Have exhaust, air cleaner, tuner, but no internal motor work..
Does anyone have an easy way to remove the m6? I tried and I could not . Mine has 1/8 in.
Groves it and the sound is getting louder. I ordered the new manual adjuster from HD.
I,m not easy on my bike but i do stay on top of maintaince. Its not stock,stage1,cams,PC5 but i drive it like i want not like i should. if it breaks i,ll fix it. I don,t care if i run a stock or 120 bike, i still have fun doing it but i try to use the best in parts and so far so good.
