The only way I can see driving style contributing to excessive wear on the M6 is if you decelerate in gear real hard which would cause the chain to compress the spring pretty hard. If you don't do that much, and if your driving it relatively normal no problems should be encountered or any abuse be subjected to the springs. Remember the heavier springs are for motors with heavy performance builds. The regular (older spring) is designed for stock builds. I would be curious to see what the driving style of the member with the broken spring is just as a reference point.

I think Hayden may want to consider increasing the amount of travel to include a proper fit for those like mine that end up with way to tight a chain. They could compensate the increase with an additional shim or maybe change the thickness of the 2 included shims, optional springs would also be nice. What will probably happen is nothing. Hayden can continue to ignore those that end up with to tight a chain by continuing to claim "let it break in" because we are a very small % of consumers. To the OP-did Kathy ever comment on your picture?
No she has not, I'm a bit puzzled by that. I will call her latter today and find out whats going on. I thin k my Son is going to stop by tonight and put a pic of the Hayden shoe up, Looks like it's been in a bike for 20 years. I put 200 miles on her yesterday with just 1 spring and all went good, and for the first time the whining sound is just about gone. At the same time I know there should be 2 springs so it kind of bugs me all the time I'm riding.

Not really, I have a great Wife and Son and a Dog that loves us. Lots of great friends to ride with and a Harley. The Hayden is nothing more then a aggravation in my life as of now. However, thanks for your concern.
I will up-date after I talk with Kathy.

Our original tensioner was tested and developed in the States; if you contact the (American) company who makes it you will certainly receive answers to your questions or worries as I did. You may even ask what's the maximum force to apply and be informed by Professionals who know the answer

On the springs no, I did shave about 1/8" off the bottom of the shoe but I don't think that will help much because it bottoms out on the spring before the shoe contacts the base.
As for Hayden I wonder if they are closed on Mondays, I have called them several times sense 1PM Mi time and all I get is a recording.
Hey guys, here's the thing. Yes, we have already taken care of the shoe and springs for GPHDXLC. I am aware this is a little more wear than 'normal' and have asked him to check his chain for a possible rough or uneven link or two. Normal break in time is about 200-400 miles and wear will be minimal, maybe 1/16 of an inch. That's actually the links cutting into the nylon shoe until the rollers seat themselves. Once this occurs you should see no more wear on the shoe, just keep it fully lubricated. We're here to help
Kathy, thanks for the response and the new shoe. I was beginning to think you had forgot about this Thread.
As you seen in my pic the chain was cut deep into the shoe with just under 3000 miles on it. My stock shoe looks a lot better and that one has over 17000 miles it.
As you see I put the new one in with just 1 spring and left the softer spring out. Now with 250 miles on the new shoe for the first time I feel some improvement. But I'm a bit on edge driving my King with just the 1 spring. The 2 springs together are just way to stiff on my bike. Is there any way you could get me a set of softer springs or should I just keep going with just the one?
One other thing, the first Harden was so ground down I'm concerned about all the shoe material getting in to the bearings, what's your take on that?...Thanks.
