I have a 2006 flhxi and i noticed that the radio volume will by it self go from nothing to full volume at idle sitting still and then some times it is okay any thought?

The most likely problem is the left hand thumb volume switch. Try taking it apart and use some contact cleaner on it.

Just had the same problem, I read a bunch on here that lots of people have had to replace the switch. First thing I'd try (since it worked for me) was spray a bunch of compressed air into the handlebar switch from every angle you can.

i was wondering is the switch easy to remove?

if you use contact cleaner, make sure it is plastic safe.

also check the speedo sensor is clean- the automatic volume control could be getting wacky info. try turning off the AVC

i am goiong to try shutting off avc system first i will let you know how it goes

great, if the speedo display is working properly, then the sensor and wiring is fine.

so the fault may be in the radio unit or the wiring to it ( from the TSSM, I think- I don't have an 06 wiring digram).
