Default Windshield sealing tape?

I posted this on the audio forum and thought I woujld try here.

I was in a good rainstorm the other day and notices I got a little water inside the fairing. I have been installing a amp and new speakers and had the lid off and noticed the water.

I invested and found the problem. The thin strip of rubber tape along the inside of the faring was torn loose in several places including where the 3 windshield screws go. I remember sometimes when you take the fating lid off that some of it sticks to the windshield. At least in the heat here in Texas.

I know I can order the foam tape from Harley but wondered if anyone had used something different that worked. I went to Autozone and bought some 3/16 inch camper mount foam tape but it's too thick. The Harley stuff is really thin. I did find some stuff on ebay that is 1mm thick that is probably close to what is needed.

Anybody know of another source?

I used this stuff. Just cut a strip out long enough and insulate your water pipes with the rest.

I'll check that out in the morning. It says it 1/8 inch thick so that thinner that what I am using.

Does it compress down easily? The stuff I have won't budge much. I think it's made for a heavy camper.

I assume you are talking about my compression question. The Harley stuff looks like it's only about 1/16 inch is why I was asking.

Yes, I knew I could order it from my dealer. I was just hoping to find something locally but to be honest I haven't checked with any of the dealer. Will probably do that and just order it.

Even with that strip in place, the fairing is not water tight. I think the tape helps keep the windshield from rattling.

I found a couple of local dealer that had the stuff in stock. Been taking the lid off several times adjusting an amp I was installing. The new stuff is already tearing a little. The problem is I wanted a shorted windshield and bought on out the cheapie s off eBay that is flat and you have to bend it. Hard to do without catching the foam seal and tearing it up.
