Damn! That is so freakin' simple! I can't believe I didn't think of it. Thanks, fatboylust, you just saved me a couple hundred bucks.

I love this forum.
Dang, we have had 20+ threads on this and what a simple idea. It takes away the "easy" opportunity, hopefully enough for whomever to walk to another opportunity.

one: locks are to keep honest people honest.

If a thief really wants in your bags (being cheap thin plastic or fibreglass) he will get in and quickly.
If you keep your lids locked, they can't get to the wire bales inside anyway.
If you're worried about overnight at a motel, take them in with you.
But it would suck to come out in the morning and not have a bike to put the bags back on to!

You could remove the "D" ring from the pins after the bags are on the bike, then if someone pry the lids and tries to twist the pins they will need supper human strength. When you wish to remove them you can make tool of you own just for your use.

FBL
You might want to make sure you have the 'removal tool' withyou at all times. I know for sure if I removed the D rings on my RK and didn't carry the 'removal tool' with me, I'd be 100 miles from home and the bags would have to be removed for whatever reason and I'd be SOL. Just my kinda luck. [sm=headbang.gif]

Of course, as long as I have the tool with me the bags will never have to be removed.[8D]

Same principle works for rainsuits- if you don't bring it, it will rain.
