Default engine light 2000 rk

A friend got caught in the rain yesterday while out riding his fi 2000 rk. Washed it and dried it with a blower as he usually does today and when he cranked it up engine light came on. Bike starts normal, runs normal through all gears and up to speed. Engine light won't go off. He said he was going to let it dry a few days to see if any moisture could've made it happen. Looked through his owners manual but couldn't figure it out. Any advice on what to check or what will make it go off. He called local Harley shop for any info and they told him he would have to bring it in and he would have to agree to let them fix it before they would hook it up to their machine to find out what is wrong.

Wow. You'd think any reputable dealer would read a code without making you get it fixed. Of course, if he goes there and they tell him what it is its not like he can't say 'Thanks' and leave. I'm sure any local indy shop would be happy to read it for free, and probably fix it for cheaper.

I have a friend who owned a Texaco station years back. He would get alot of people come in so he could tell them what's wrong with their cars. More then what you would think said Thanks, then left so their mechanic or friend knew what to fix. He eventually had to close up shop. Nowadays you can go on the interweb and find out what's causing your problem, shop for the part you need, have it shipped to your house, without getting off the couch. So I wouldn't hesitate to charge a fee for diagnosing your problem, if your gonna say thanks and leave.,,

Hmm, i thought Harley dealerships avoided bikes over 10 years old...
i would check the connections near the various sending units on the bottom of the motor. I would also advise finding and independent shop to give you some help...

Check the neutral switch! Mine got water/moisture in it, and would make the engine light come on and stay on. Sometimes it would go off. But it's not that expensive of a part, like $15 or something if it comes to replacing it. But then again, the Neutral light would stay on to. So with that in mind, definitely check sending units such as that. Seem to be a little bit touchy.
