I guess I never considered taking the headlight assembly apart to change a bulb, and I've changed a few.
I've had the fairing off so many times I could do it in a minute, it seems obvious it's way to go, especially when adding the HD headlight visor crack issue into play.

Exactly why I suggest just opening the fairing.

IF the OP disturbed the wiring with his other install, he will have to get in there again. If it is the bulb, it is quick and easy.

step 1 is figure out where you will lay the fairing once lifted off, a towel will do

for owners with spot lights, just put a tube socks over them.loosen windscreen screws, remove windscreen and any trim...reinstall center screw loosely.
do the inner fairing screws.
go around front, remove the center screw and lift off fairing, pull headlight plug...
a towel on the fender is smart

*** some riders when removing the bucket have problems with pinched wires or headlight misalignment...

I went the front route and took off the four screws. Replaced the bulb and that was the problem. Ten minutes and I was done. Thanks for the help everyone!

No need to remove the whole light bucket:
1 screw for the outer trim ring
3 screws for the trim ring that holds the light in the bucket (no changes to headlight alignment at all)

Much simpler than fairing removal.
