Going to install 12" PYO Monkey Bars. After I refill/ bleed brakes after install, manual says to use ABS machine at dealership to ensure ABS system working and no air in line.
Question: will the brakes still work without machine? Would like to drive it to dealership to get service to ABS...would hate to have to tow if brakes still work.
Yes they will still work just not the ABS. If your careful not to introduce air into the system and bleed your brakes properly you may not have to go to the dealer at all. You'll know as soon as you take off on it if the ABS is functioning as it should. The ABS light will go out like before. If the ABS light stays on then there's a good likelihood that air has gotten trapped in the ABS unit.
Just use a hand vacuum bleeder. If you don't have one you can go your local auto parts and buy an inexpensive one for 20-40 dollars bleed it out and away you go. I've did many sets of apes on abs bikes and it worked just fine. My bike has over 10k since the bars were put on with no problems.
