Default Need Help! I screwd up Windshield Install

Ok, so I did just what I was told not to. I stripped out the brass insert in the center of the fering. I picked up a new one from the stealer and took off the front of the fering. Now I can't get the insert out. Could it be glued in? Please give me some tips guys.

I have been here. I had to use an easy out to get the old insert out. Depending on the year bike will depend on what happens next. Mines a 98 and used a pushed in insert. The replacement insert is a screw in. I had to drill out my hole some to allow the new insert to fit properly. BTW you can drill out the old insert as well but you better have a steady hand. Anyway I was then able to put in the new insert. I screwed it in as far as it could go and then break off the ends. You may need to dress the end a little after that. If you have a newer bike with the screw in insert then the easy out should do the trick. Good luck!

Yes Dawg, I know you did. I feel like such an idiot. It's 75 deg. here and I could be riding now instead of going to get an easy out. Flame away, I deserve it.

Done, well almost. I retapped the insert. Worked like a charm. Biggestdawg, I guess you can call me "Cool Hand Luke".So, I took her out for a spin tonight and the headlight is way off. Guess I am headed back out to the garage to take it back apart. Thanks for the info men.

No need to take it apart to adjust the headlight. That can be done from the front adjusting screws around the headlight. Unless you tok off the headlight in order to install the new insert.......?

Naw soos, I accidentally pried the coil spring loose on one side of the headlight while unhooking the fering. I just had to take it back off and pull the lights rubber mount off, then pop the bulb insert back into the slots. It's all done now. It will take a while to get used to the Cee Baileys 12 incher though. Rode about 5 miles tonight. I am 6 ft tall and may be better suited with a 9 in Cee Baileys. Did it take a bit to get used to yours?

It took just a little time to get used to. I am 5'8" and I have the 12" model which is equal to a stock 9". I look over mine by about 1.5-2" and it is perfect for me. I love mine.

Glad to hear everything is fixed. I am interested in hearing how you like the shorter WS. I have been considering it for mine but not sure yet. Let me know.
