I can agree, I just want to track down and correct what to me is a slight annoyance. I want the bike to run correctly whatever that may be. I do not like the beach except for the evening time. I work in the sun all day long so going to the beach during the day sucks.

I have reused headbolts without any issues, but if that makes you uneasy than by all means replace as they are not that expensive.

I agree with yazergod this sounds like a tuning issue. I would get an aftermarket tuner and tune it yourself as it maybe hard to find a HD tech that can work ona bike that old (I kid you not).

hi !before you take motor apart, start with checking for manifold leak them the fule filter and clean or replace the injectors, then if that doesn't work, if you have a added fuel manage ment, try unplugging it and cruseing the neighbor hood, if that doesn'work id start with the cam n see whats going on there, if you get down to bare pistons check youre play in lower end by the manual. while youre in the cam box id put a new bearing and also would be time to change cams if you like. good luck bud

Hmmm... I'm still thinking you have some sort of fuel delivery issue. I ran into a problem with it running like it had bad gas, stuttering and hesitating between 2900-3500 rpm. The fix was to run a bottle of fuel injector cleaner through it over the course of 3 tanks, and to inspect the two fuel lines. I have those on order to replace, but while on the road I disconnected them from the tank and cleaned where the connector ball is and then zip-tied them together. I am pretty sure there was a pin hole leak around the area where the rubber line is crimped into the housing. Several board members reported similar problems/symptoms involving the fuel lines and air getting in. Some had problems with the fuel filter and hoses that are all within the tank, while others (like me) the exterior fuel line. Could be a bugger to find. But, it sounds like once the amount of required fuel gets to a certain point, what ever leak stops it's effect resulting in smoothness above 2700 rpm. My initial reaction would be to run a $3 bottle of injector cleaner through it first.

Last tank of 93 octane 10 % ethanol 1/2 bottle of sea foam. This tank same thing. My personal unedumacated guess might be flat spot on the tps.I can see what appears to be a little seepage at the tps. see attached photo sorry about the focus.... While looking at air filter and throttle body today I tried to clean the air temp sensor, ya know since I was there. Did not get a chance to ride though. After this tank I will switch back to 90 octane pure gas and see if that helps any. I was also thinking perhaps a bad or partially fouled injector. I think if one or two of the holes are clogged that may explain then with throttle maybe the rest open ??? Any ideas on how to safely and easily clean. I have seen some videos on Youtube but seemed kinda beyond me at the moment. I did find some on ebay not priced to bad. Anyone know if I have the 8 degree on the 2000 or was that only on 06 and newer with the 25 degree change out. mine are orange and most of the ones I see for sale are black or silver with one that has a yellow stripe or am I looking at the wrong part, again see photo...
