Just accept that whatever you bolt on or change will not bring you any more green when and if you trade it. Had an 07 Ultra that I poured money into 110 motor, cams, TD Rinehart, tuner you name it it was probably bolted on. Traded it last year on a CVO Ultra and glad I did. The CVO has all the bells and whistles and plenty of performance for me. I did just add new tires, plenty of gas and a few oil changes.
I'm not bashing the cvo owners. I am one. Paid cash plus my 06 ultra for the 10 crimson mist. All I'm saying is the new limited is a better buy now and many agree. 40k for cvo is too much. U can bling up a regular 14 limited and still be 9 to 10k ahead. Ok so no heated seat or locking fobs. Those are nice features. The seat is a grand I'm told. Yes it's fun to have cvo but not 40k fun. My nicely appointed 350 hp car was 33k!
I think the price difference of the CVO RK and the RK/RKC is justifiable. The CVO has 10 X better paint and nice wheels compared to the standard... Not to mention the sound system on the 2013 CVO RK that I am picking up this week.
YES!!! Until you cam a 103. And if that still aint enough, get a top end kit (heads ported/polished with compression bump). Still not enough? Then go to a 107. Either way, you will run circles around 110 motors and still come out a whole lot cheaper.
thats assuming that you wouldn't do any of this to the 110?

Right. Just to make sure that we all are comparing apples to apples. When I needed to have my engine replaced, the difference between a 103 and a 110 was less than $700.

Cars and bikes 2 different toys. As for the limited vs CVO, just looked at a limited and there is a lot of bling missing. Doesn't even have chrome lower forks wtf.
Ha, you take a 103 which is the same heads as the 96 and just put a cam in it you can't come close to running circles around a 110. you cam a 110 and the 103 will never touch it. I've had both and built 107 and none of them will run with the cam and pipe setup I had in my 110. True story.
Well, there are so many variables besides displacement. My 2009 flhp with a 103, se 255 cams, ventilator and rineharts with a proper tune runs just as strong as my 2013 cvo rg which is mostly stock except for slipons. I love riding both bikes, just depends on my mood
According to the SE catalog:
A stage 1 110 like cvo (255 cams + 110 heads) makes about 100Tq/80hp.
A stage 2 (255 cams $340) 103 makes about 95tq/80hp.
So the bigger heads and 7 cu. in. give ya 5 ft. lbs. ???
Andrews 57 or Woods 555 cams in a proper stage 1 103 are making 110ft lbs and 100 hp with a proper tune. Add head work and bump those numbers about 10.
Sure ya can add cams and head work to a 110 and get good numbers but ya are already starting out $10k up on a 103.
The only way a cvo makes sense to me is if ya like it all stock or have the bucks to throw all the cvo extras away and replace them with what works better for ya. I don't buy new because I know I'm gonna swap out most everything anyway. I may have over $20k in my '09 but it is getting close to done and it is my personal bike now.
Oh; and it will spank all the CVOs I ride with...

One thing to keep in mind is that the 103 engines in the bikes today, are NOT the same 103 engines in the CVOs of 2004-2006. Those engines came with Cams, SE Heads and were Stroked. They are considered by many who have owned both a CVO 103 and a CVO 110, to be the best and most realiable engine Harley ever made.
But I could be wrong.
Please enlighten me about the older 103 engines. I just bought an `05 Screamin` Eagle Fatboy CVO. The previous owner hot rodded the engine, and Harley wouldn`t allow the dealer to sell it without a rebuild. So, I`m breaking in a brand new engine right now.

The older 103 engines were bulletproof. In 2005 the only real issues were valve seals and primary gaskets, oh, and an occasional comp nut backing off. The cranks got lighter and the heads had issues after 2006.
