2014 Limited - Clunk from fairing area when hitting small bumps
I have a 2014 Limited, and since I bought it have heard a clunk from the front end fairing area when I hit a small bump, such as a recessed man hole cover. Nothing big like a 3 inch pothole but a small 1" dip in the road. Had dealer ride it an he heard it also. The took it in checked the front fork bearing, raised it off the ground and also checked the swing, everything looks as it should be. I had them remove the outer fairing to look for any loose parts, they found none.
He said that they are waiting for another 14 to come in so he can take it for a short ride to see if this is normal on the 14's, he also called HD and didn't get any information from them, nothing.
Question: Have any of you 14 owners experienced this "clunk" when hitting small bumps? If so was there a solution to the problem?
I have a 2014 Limited and have not heard any noise from the front. The roads here in Jersey are bad and I just can't dodge everyone. Wish I could be more help. Hope you find out soon.
Same issue. Thought it might have been a loose fairing bracket? I've only noticed it a couple times on bridge seams, small potholes, etc. (2014 FLHTK, Charcoal Pearl/Vivid Black.
And while I'm complaining... I didn't get a CB antenna, but dealer's making it right.
Not that it's the same bike but I had the same problem on my 2006 streetglide. Dealer took it apart a few times and so did I. After a month of driving me crazy I found the problem. The right front speaker has a center mounted tweeter that had come loose. Replaced the speaker and the noise was gone. You can't actually see the problem until you remove the speaker.
This is a long shot and probably isn't the issue but its another idea to check off the list. I had a dyna which I know isn't the same bike but I had a clunk that appeared while going over expansion sections of bridges or and jarring bump in the road and drove me nuts.
I eventually narrowed it down to the bolt that held the gas tank on at the front. It was just loose enough that it would make a clunk sound and feeling and it resonated to the bars and front end.
I remain clunkless, darn, If I was supposed to get a clunk with this bike I was cheated. I have no leaking, no unusual noises, no nothing extra but total enjoyment out of this bike. I was obviously cheated and want my money back from MoCo
