is there a way to put in the new screw in style brass inserts for the windshield without taking off the whole fairing front

don't think its possible, it's real easy to take the front fairing off, don't let it intimidate you. Put a blanket on the front fender before you start.

well you don't have to completely remove it to reach the top inserts (holding the windshield), but you would have to remove all 7 screws.
My running lights and towel-covered fender held mine in place while swapping out the inserts.
