Default Chrome fork kit install question

How many of you guys have installed this kit? I have the shop manual. Dealer is quoting 5 hrs labor. I would like to save myself $ 400.00. I have a lift and the wrenches. Any suggestions, tips, etc. would be appreciated.

the hardest part (for me) was getting the damn fork cap back on. you have to compress the spring, and spin the cap to catch the first couple of threads. that part alone took me more time than anything else. and the palms of my hands were sore for the next 2 days (get your mind out of the gutter....)

Yeah that was really difficult. I built this. Placed the fork leg in it and had a helper push down on the top board which compressed the cap into the slider. At the same time I held the cap with a wrench and turned the actual slider.

I installed chrome legs on my sg, however I took the legs to a local guy and had him to install a lowering kit for $60.00 that included the fork oil so I ended up with $60.00 in the entire project. My local hd told me 6 hours labor that's crock of crap do it yourself not that hard at all. The one tool I did buy was a special socket for the fork nuts so I could get proper torque on them.

Air impact to remove bottom allen bolt, friend to help compress to put the cap on, motion pro fork oil tool to get the oil level correct. It's an easy job.

Why does the whole thing need to be disassembled? Seems to me the once the 6mm bolt is out the slider will just come off. I might be wrong but I see no logic in taking the whole fork tube apart.

I think it might be a little hard to change legs out to chrome without taking the old one. Hmmm
