Default '14 SG Exhaust/TUner Question

OK - I just purchsed a '14 SG. I'd like to go to Rhinehart True Duals. I'm not in to making the bike perform better, but I don't want a lot of decel pop or issues. Is it possible to buy the pipe and install without having to put a tuner on? I'd like to keep my costs to a minimum. Will the bike's performance change for the worse if I just put the pipes on? And I'm not going with slipons. I'm going with the whole exhaust system. Any suggestions?

I got the Vance and Hines pro pipe with no tune or air cleaner, and mine pops very little. My buddy has a thundermax tuner and his bike still pops with the autotuner.

With just a pipe change you usually don't need a tuner. As for decal pop issues...it depends on the exhaust ....and whether you have any exhaust leaks. Change them out and ride it....if there's a decal pop issue you may want to consider a tuner to fix it.

I'm in the same boat. Just purchased a '14 SG and looking for a little more rumble with reduced heat while not killing the fuel economy. Factory power from the HO 103 fits my current needs.

I went with V&H Monster Square slip-ons.

No tuner, stock intake....no popping, very happy with stock performance. First bike that I will not do a Stage 1

My last bike had a 103, but this one out performs the old one. Might just be that the last bike was just a "dog".

Why not just do some 4" slip-ons?

Default Tuner

Any Factory stock FI bike is tuned to run very lean. Lean running cylinders run much hotter than those that have the correct AFR. Anytime you change the exhaust system you make the bike run lean and create a problem. You should put on the slip on mufflers of your choice along with a V&H VO2 Air cleaner and then add the V&H Fuel Pak. It will perform much better than stock, run cooler and be more fun to ride. It will also stop any engine problems that will arise from lean running. The V&H Fuel Pak may be purchased for under $200 and are very easy to install and adjust. You will not need a dealer tune or dyno run. The only problem with the V&H Fuel Pak is that if you want to add other engine performance items such as cams and heads then it will not be able to keep your needed adjustments in tune. I have installed the Fuel Pak on two bikes with great results. Now if you feel you will make more changes then go to Fuel Moto and purchase the mapped for your bike Dyno Jet tuner. They only cost about $275 and will work with cam and timing changes by a simple download.

The true duals will effect your performance regardless of using a tuner or not...The will take away some low end grunt but they may give a little on the top. YMMV but for me, the difference in the bottom was pretty noticeable...
