Default Take Console Inlay Removal

Hi guys-

2011 Street Glide-

I got the Raised Skull Tank Console Inlay and need to remove the FLHX stock inlay.

What is the best approach? I think I heard dental floss?

Any input?

Thanks in advance!

Good luck, that 3M tape is some strong stuff....Use some thin/strong fishing line and heavy gloves...I got fed up and just ripped it off..Of course it wasn't useable afterwards.....

If it's glued on ( part #9 ) I'd say you could try that ... look at the replacement piece and see if there are "Pop pins" that keep it on, if so remove the console assy and push it out from the back ... Service Manual would probably address the issue?

Yes it is double sided taped on. I do not plan on keeping the stock one....fishing line sounds like a good idea.

Use a Hair Dryer to heat it a little it sure come off pretty easy. Then you can use any good decal remover or finger nail polish remover to clean the glue off. And unless you feel real lucky you might want to take it off tank that is if your Dryer is like my wife's( it is like a damn blast furnace)

I just installed the 'skull' inlay on my Street Glide. Looked like the OEM was going to be a bitch to get off when I noticed that the new inlay covered the OEM version perfectly! I simply cleaned the OEM with rubbing alcohol and pressed the new one on top. Looks great!

Since the new inlay did not include instructions...I must be right! ;-)

Good luck!

Steve

I took mine off when I had the console powder coated. Take it off the bike and heat it from the back with a hair dryer. Then I used a small plastic pot scraper and kinda just pushed it under nice and slow a little at a time heating it again every now and then. Didn't mess it up at all. Even reused it when I got the console back from powder coating. It's 3M tape on the back.
