I have an 07 Road King and something seems to be draining the battery. I had the battery checked and it's good. I hard charged it overnight and the battery will last about 2 days and then it doesn't have enough juice to start it again. Any ideas?
I recently battled a similar issue... I would have to jump start it if it sat for more than 6-8 hours. I ended up pulling the battery out and then cleaned, scrubbed, & scraped all of the leads, washers, & terminals. Nothing appeared to be corroded at a glance but after I got nice new metal on metal contact I haven't had a bit of trouble. I haven't even put it on the tender while having it sit for a few days.
batteries "drain" if there is a wiring fault, a bad diode in the voltage regulator or even dirt on the battery...current can flow through the dirt from pole to pole.
or the battery could just be done and unable to hold a charge
once fully discharged- as it seems this battery has been- the capacity to hold a charge is reduced by about 40%.
each of these possibilities can be checked with a meter and some smarts.
be warned that a bad battery- if yours is- can destroy the charging system.
