Been on the fence about a 14 and when I read the jumping through hoops to make things work….Like the Garmin….I really am thinking twice about spending 29k+ for something that can't compare to my 660.

Maybe wait for the 2015's to come out………..and hope!

You know that aside from the GPS, the 2014's come with a motorcycle too!

Then I guess we will agree to disagree - I have used the same Garmin zumo 665 on the handlebars of my 2007 Ultra and 2010 Ultra Limited (traded in with 106,386 miles) and while the zumo would interrupt XM, that was only because I was using the XM feature of the zumo, not the Harley add-on module. The AUX input does not interrupt FM. If your previous bikes were CVOs, too, it is quite possible the NIM came standard - it certainly didn't in the non-CVO models.

^^^^^ THAT LOL

I never realized the love affair people had with their Garmin based GPS's.

I never had a GPS on a bike before. The 6.5 is WAY better than my iPhone mounted to a RAM mount (what I used before). It's as good as any GPS I've ever had in any vehicle (2004 Infiniti Q56, 2008 BMW 328xi, 2008 Jeep Wrangler, 2012 Jeep Wrangler, 2013 Audi S4). It was exactly what I expected after using all of those vehicle systems.

Unless you're married to the more than 9 waypoint feature of the hand held based Garmin units, the 6.5 does everything a GPS needs to do for point A to B routing. The control via voice commands and handlebar toggles is perfect for a motorcycle and something that no other GPS solution offers. The Bluetooth phone and iPod music controls are second to none. The availability of SAT radio makes it the equal of any in vehicle system. The screen is easy to read in bright sunlight. I like the ability to direct navigation prompts to the headset while leaving music playing through the speakers. Having the unit built in makes it useful for non routing uses, like seeing the next curve on an unknown road, spotting interesting side roads. Having it built in reduces theft. It's always there ready to guide me home, to the next hotel, etc.

BTW, the attached motorcycle is pretty awesome too.

That's bad news indeed, Ron. :-( I couldn't give a rat's a$$ if that onboard POS GPS is disabled or not, but the Zumo not interrupting the audio is a MAJOR problem.

If you're satisfied with point to point navigation (like riding the superslab, or navigating from bar to bar) then the on-board NAV is adequate. Want to route through the twisties in the mountains, not happening.

I say "adequate" and not great, or even ok, because my Garmin can navigate to my 10-year old neighborhood, the 6.5 can't - streets aren't in the outdated maps! And my Garmin comes with lifetime map updates, while H-D wants $150/quarter for sub-standard maps.

My Garmin allows me to find next gas while I'm rolling down the road, it doesn't require me to pull off and stop first. And no lectures about fiddling with the gps while rolling, or we'll have to have a conversation about changing radio stations with the non-VR H-K radios in previous models.

No, the on-board NAV is pathetic - H-D would have done riders a greater service by designing an open standard base unit that would allow any brand gps to be connected, and updated as often as a rider would choose (kinda like the HKs!)

Did anyone ever get the Naviextras update to install? I just tried it again after leaving it alone since the 1.17.1.4 update and it still won't load. i get the export just fine, just no upload...says no content after authentication runs for several minutes...

The Naviextra website STILL only has map updates from 2012 Q2.

Is this what we are stuck with?

I went to
http://www.harley-davidson.com/en_US...downloads.html

I installed the 1.17.4 from here on a 6.5 system and had no problems
