Same problem....On my old heritage I put a dyna sissy bar pad so I could slip it over the sissy bar. On my new SG I have no pad so I can slip it over the sissy bar.
Working on a way to attach dyna pad to SG wide *** sissy bar. When daughter rides with me, from school many times I bungy the dyna pad.
Aside from strapping down to the seat or fender, there aren't going to be any real cheap options. A bungee net could possibly work, but I've never been a fan of the hooks being near paint and chrome, and don't trust thieves. I'd guess a trunk will be an easy $1k+ depending on whether you get color matched or leather. The leather one is $700 alone, and I'm not sure it locks. Spending that kind of coin I'd want something secure. You could try eBay or Craigslist for a "take off".
Well sure thing, the leather tour pack has a locking lid and the barrel lock will be keyed to your ignition. I have it on my bike.
But keep in mind, the tour pack is secured with quick detachable mounting and the lock is attached to the removable mount so unless you install the Brukkus or other secure hardware someone can steal the tourpack (with the contents and lock) in about 15 seconds, then unlock it at their leisure.
