I was at Fast Eddies last weekend and saw what initially looked like an ultra, but come to find out it was a king! It had a ultra fairing on it and everything. Have any of you done this? I have a classic and it might look silly with a fairing and hard trunk but I would like to see others experience with this. How much does this kind of thing cost to do?
Road King all around motorcycle...Throw on a detachable fairing and tour pack to go touring or strip it down for a night on the town with your sleek no shield King...
Here are a couple pics of my "ultra king " I bought the road king with the hoppe fairing on it then added the tour pack with detachable hardware for about $2000.
That looks great! I am glad you posted pics I have been wanting to see black wagon wheels with white walls! I am trying to find a set for my classic to replace the spokes.
My Sig Pic below is a Road King with a Harley OEM Chopped Tour Pak, aftermarket EBay Lowers, and Dead Center Fairing. How much does it cost? Way too much! Just buy an Ultra from the start.....
It's very common around here. Like mentioned, you can't strip an Ultra down to a King, but with just a detachable batwing, and trunk, you can make a King into an Ultra clone. At least I see them all the time. Like many will say, this very reason is why the Road King is leaps and bounds ahead of every other touring bike in versatility. The ability to add or remove a fairing in oh.........10 seconds. Cheap, no. Versatile, yes.
I was looking to a bigger bike before we picked up my Road Glide. At the time it wasn't an option so I was looking at making my Road King Classic a little more Ultra like. So as far as the leather goes I was thinking about...
Of course they make a leather basket weave style tour pack, not cheap but it's out there.
Then I also thought about getting a removable fairing, and putting a leather bra on it, save on painting, and try to tie in the leather.
I also found leather covered lower fairings.
None of these things were cheap though. Biggest thing was I wasn't sure how it was going to look with all this leather, it would be definitely different than most other bikes, but it would be a RKC with Ultra features and more leather. The one thing I do know is I didn't really care for the Classics with a painted tour pack and fairing, didn't match up right. Either way good luck to you.
