madurodave,

My Sundowner Solo seat would not take a back rest - that's why I went with the Mustang. I had a Corbin w/ backrest on a Lowrider, but feel the Mustang is a better ride.

OK. Silly question;is the adjustable rider back rest detachable?

I will need to remove the backrest when the preferred backrest (wife) is riding. I don't want to remove the seat each time she rides.

Any advice is welcomed.

I don't like mine, it came with the bike, and I removed it and the bracket, It is the non-adjustable, and I hated sitting on the tank.

I went with a harley adjustable backrest and the sundowner seat on my 07 RoadKing. Love them both. The sundowneris the best seat I haveowned. The rider backrest was a pain to install, but love it. I also installed theHeritage bars.I am 6'1" and I am not too far forward. It is a very comfortable bike now. Can't remember the exact cost, but it was around $500 for backrest, and seat.

Thanks for the advice. I purchased and installed the adjustable HD backrest lastnight.

I think I may have to bend it just a little to get the far back position I want. I don't want to heat to bend for fear of burning foam and leather. Any ideas on the best way/place to bend?

Thanks again!

I love my sundowner seat with adj backrest both to match the original Street Glide styling. I did to the put the washers under the front mount trick to allow me to lean back a little further. When I first installed the backrest without the washers it drove me nuts pushing me to far forward. FYI you do need a longer screw if you put about 10 washers in like i did. After putting on many miles with the backrest I don't know what I ever did without it. My lower back is not very good to begin with and it is a life saver on long trips.

Although I really would have preferred a nice wide backrest, Mrs. Chil compained that the one we demo'd was uncomfortable to straddle. So I ended up buying the smallest profile one offered by HD. Will install it next week.

Going to echo that if you are a big guy, I'm 6'4" 260, the HD rider backrest will have you sitting on the tank. The adjustable backrest was a joke on my RKC, because even the furthest back adjustment was still way too far forward. Definitely the kind of thing where you wish you could have tired it before you bought it.

I modified the backrest pad itself to let me get back a little further, but the stock seat itself wasn't making the cut for long hauls, so I just ditched both.

Switched to Corbin and haven't looked back.
