I read that many people think the rider backrests are a terrific feature, so I have been looking at them. I have the stock seat on my '05 Ultra so I 've been considering the two options.
1) Comfortstitch Rider Backrest 52572-03 - fixed angle but removeable
2) Comfortstitch Adjustable Rider Backrest 52622-03 - adjusts to many angles and folds forward for passenger entry.
The adjustable backrest is significantly more benjamins than the fixed backrest, so I was wondering what everyone is riding with and is the adjustable one worth the extra money?
I'm riding the adjustable comfort stich on my 2004 Ultra and it's very nice to have the support for the long hauls. My wife is a little cramped with the backrest on, so I take it off for around town driving. You'll like the adjustability if it.
Im using the $189.00 pillow look riders backrest on my 2003. It also folds forward. Im happy with this one but I have not had anything different to compare it to.
I have the adjustable (manually, not gas adjustable) one on my 05 Ultra, and love it. I have it adjusted fairly far back, and when my wife is on the back, it does hit her legs. As a result, she has to spread her legs around it, but not excessively, so it's not a problem (according to her).
I haven't found it to be easily removeable (which can be a good thing in terms of avoiding easy theft), so I've left it on there since I put it on. I doubt I'll take it off, since it's so comfortable. It also has a pocket in the back, which we've found handy to hold maps, etc.
I installed the Pillow Lokk Type on my 00, pc of cake to install, a little hard to get the back rest thru the seat and into the bracket but thats all. It tips forward for pass entry and is height adjustable at the mounting bracket.
Currently run a Corbin seat w/backrest so dont know about any comfort stitch.
Thanks to all for the great advice on rider backrests. I'm definitely heading out to pick one up. I'm off to find that 30% off Harley dealer - wish me luck!
I just hope there's no risk of dozing off with these things on the highway commute if I get too comfortable.
I have the adjustable backrest on my 05 Ultra. I like it very much, very comfortable but the wife says she doesn't have a whole lot of room with it on. She says its not bad but it does take away some of her room. Would not leave home on a long trip without it though........
