Default More power

My 2010 ultra has a 96 ci engine and I need more out of the engine.
I have done a stage 1 upgrade but it is still lacking.
What is the next step to get more out of the engine?
Thank you

cams will get you about 10 hp

then bigger bore and headwork.

with each step mpg and reliability will be affected, always a balancing act.

mild gains are ok, but get some good power going and you'll be doing a clutch and compensator... then the continual discovery of the next weakest link in the chain.

the real enemy here is the weight- the touring chassis has so much weight...hundreds of pounds more than the dyna chassis

You can buy a nice sportbike like a used Ducati, for what it costs to make a harley go fast ( don't forget the stopping and turning)

What's your budget & what's your riding style, in other words where do ypu want the power & how much more do you want? You can easily go from the 70+ hp you have now to 100 hp without loosing any reliability, all of the new bikes are 103s & it's easy to get 90-100 hp from a reliable 103. My last 103 was making about 95 hp & I had about 90K on it with no problems, you just need to find the right combination of parts & an expert builder to put them together correctly.

A cam would be the next step. The TW222 or the SE204 or Andrews 48 or 57 would work and a PV tuner or SEPST or TTS are all good choices. The SE204 would be a little easier on the valve train due to less lift and not be lacking in power to any of these other choices. I have a 2010 FLHTK with 103 and have had no issues with drive train or anything. Have had Stage 1 and am upgrading to cams and compression and gear change and new compensator. Now if you go up high on the power and torque and don't do the necessary upgrades you will eventually have a problem. If you just have slipons and AC you will notice some improvement with a good header either 2-1-2 or 2 in 1 or True duals. With right tune and tuner you can gain 10 HP by just doing this over stock. Add cam and you can get 20 HP over stock. That will make a difference. More than that and you will spend good bit more.

Unless you are just in love with your Harley you might be better served to start looking at some of the high performance metrics on the market. They are modern engines and all of them make way more horsepower than a Harley does. My non riding friends all like the "noise" my Harley makes but little do they know that it wouldn't dig a hole in wet dog manure.

Bang for the buck if your picking 1 item after a stage 1 its a cam upgrade and tune. After the stage 1 on my old deluxe 96 motor threw in a woods TW555 cam and a dyno tune it was like I put a new motor on the sled.

You don't mention your tuning device, so I'll assume you have the Harley download. Get yourself a PowerVision and get the bike running right. That may be enough for you (assuming that you've already swapped out the exhaust).

If not, prepare to spend some money.

You can go to 103 or 107 relatively easily. With the right cam you can get yourself right around 110 hp & tq, you'll see no impact to either mileage or reliability, and you'll have a fun bike to ride.

Doing the above (tuner, big bore, cams) yourself, expect to pay about $2000.

For the same money you can go on Craigslist and buy a used ZX6-R that'll mop the floor with any Harley out there. Your call.
